Neill Blomkamp Reveals Concept Art from a Secret 'Alien' Project
by Ethan Anderton
January 2, 2015
Considering what a disappointment that Alien prequel Prometheus turned out to be, it would be a blessing if 20th Century Fox saw fit to get another director to enter the world that Ridley Scott created, but has since left stale. Enter District 9 director Neill Blomkamp, who has his film Chappie arriving in March, who revealed some concept art on Twitter for some kind of Alien project that he was working. Blomkamp began to tease the project on Twitter by saying, "Was working on this. Don't think I am anymore. Love it though. #alien #xenomorph." However, we found that's a little bit deceiving after he revealed more.
Here's what Neill Blomkamp posted on Twitter, by way of Instagram, sometime last night:
But if you check Twitter, he reveals that the project was not sanctioned by the studio:
Ps this has nothing to do with the studio. I just feel like I might do something else instead. In which case why not show some work-

They didn't really even know I was working on it ha

Still though, the prospect of a director like Blomkamp working on some kind of Alien spin-off, sequel or prequel is very enticing. At this point, a new director needs to step into the world of Ridley Scott, because the man who made the sci-fi franchise an iconic series just doesn't pack the same punch he used to anymore. It's time to bring the new generation of successful sci-fi directors to the table for big franchises like this.
In addition, it's important to keep in mind that this Twitter account isn't verified, so this could very well be some kind of dumb hoax. After all, why would a professional film director create such high quality concept art for a studio's franchise project that he wasn't hired to work on yet? He might have been crafting a pitch to take to Fox, but that's still bold for such an iconic franchise. Though the fact that his Insagram seems to have photos that no one else but Blomkamp himself could have seems to indicate that the artwork is from the filmmaker. Either way, it's some cool artwork, right? Thoughts?

I might need to watch it again but I thought it was just plain masterpiece, with no more flaws than any other masterpiece out there.

Prometheus is an amazing movie, the fact that a 70 year old director who has not touched the material in over 20 years was able to captivate and pull my interest as he did for the first film Alien. Visually was impressive and gave us a true origins on how the Queen Alien was born. It took a the host (worm snake species) to host inside the woman, creating the Alpha Face Hugger, which then Sucked face with the Nephlyum - creating the Alien Queen that pretty much screws up the Galaxy in some aspects... Its great and i want more..

Prometheus does have it's flaws, but honestly....I still like it, and still watch it.

Whats flawed about ? Can you support that we a gods honest answer - the movie is an origins story to the Xenomorph - where is Promethues 2 is going to fill the gaps everyone wanted to know... Basically who are the big blue people really.. We all know they created man, and other species, but there history is what everyone is hung up on. If you strip away all of that, you have a back to the basic horror film. Its just sad that only ghosts, zombies, torture porn, and masked slashers now qualify as horror, the monster movie is not. Alien was freaky as hell, this did have elements of that and less Aliens, so why is it flawed?

I don't think I have any complaints about Ridley Scott's directing other than failing to recognize how awful that screenplay was.

I watched Prometheus the other nigh for the 3rd time. It didn't annoy me quite as much, actually enjoyed the visuals, but the acting/story was a bit wonky.

Exactly. Nailed it. The visuals were never P weak spots. I know this is like beating a dead horse but no amount of viewing will make me 'less forgiving'. I was just glad that Lindelof was basically boo'd off twitter. I liked the original script by Jon Spaihts a lot better.

Oops Carpola, I think you meant "Ripley's" Scorpion suit! Ridley would be that famous director that you may have heard of!! Anyway this would be totally bananas and a great dream. Please make it happen God!!

I'm pleased to hear he's not doing this. I remember he did an interview about being a choice to direct one of the Star Wars movies and he basically said that he'd rather do his own thing instead, which I respect a lot. I hope that applies to other sequels, remakes, reboots and franchises. Leave this stuff alone, especially the Ripley character. The artwork looks cool though.

I disagree. If someone could pull off something fresh its Blomkamp. And while i dig his original material i don't see a reason why someone like him shouldn't shouldn't use their talents on existing franchises such as Alien.

Wow these are fantastic. I wonder if he will ever get a shot at this re boot.

What an idiot. " I just feel like I might do something else instead. In which case why not show some work." Idiot! Alien is one of the most beloved sci-fi franchises in the film industry. It's like JJ tweeting concept art of Star Wars 5 years ago and saying "meh, not in the mood". Thanks idiot.

Agreed... egotistical directors who's visions are just re-hashes of video games and comics done right.. Besides most of his movies are trying to always be ahead - don't get me wrong, but everyone is screaming how Chappie looks likes it never been done or so original.. but its just an evolution of a classic 80's film set in Africa...

can we just leave ripley and hicks dead? they died. especially ripley. it was bs when they brought her back in resurrection considering how she died. come up with a new character.

Prometheus could have been the new Alien but somehow it got the formula wrong. The point of Alien was "a Killer evolves in your body" and "fight for survival in space". Prometheus didn't focused enough on this points. It was still fun to watch but it lacks the tension of an ALIEN movie. Sigourneys shadow is also huge that probably no actress could ever fill their boots. But I think they didn't even tried in Prometheus. The main actress reminded me more of a screaming schoolgirl. On the other hand the android had much more of a main actor. Weird decision making by Scott...
