She's Funny That Way

It's been about 14 years since director Peter Bogdanovich was at the helm of narrative feature film, and now he's back with She's Funny That Way. The first trailer has just debuted, and it's certainly not going to be for everybody, but it has a classic charm that we normally don't see in films nowadays. It feels old fashioned, for better or worse, but it doesn't exactly look bad. The film follows a prostitute and aspiring actress (Imogen Poots) who has a one night stand with a married Broadway director (Owen Wilson), hoping to further her career. But the real story begins when the hooker auditions for a play starring his wife.

Here's the first trailer for Peter Bogdanovich's She's Funny That Way, originally from Yahoo:

She's Funny That Way (formerly Squirrel to the Nuts) is directed by Peter Bogdanovich (What's Up Doc?, The Last Picture Show) from a script he co-wrote with first-time writer Louise Stratten. A married Broadway director (Owen Wilson) falls for a prostitute-turned-actress (Imogen Poots) and works to help her advance her career. There's also an all-star cast that includes Jennifer Aniston, Will Forte, Kathryn Hahn, Lucy Punch, Debi Mazar, Rhys Ifans, Cybill Shepherd, Colleen Camp, Illeana Douglas and more. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year, and now it hits limited theaters this spring on April 10th.

Lots of punching it seems.

I like Imogen Poots, and the rest of the cast is great (I don't get why Michael Shannon keeps getting small roles in movies like this. I've seen him in the very sub-par They came together). Movie looks fun. That being said, the company who cut this trailer shouldn't be allowed to do one in the near future.

Agreed. Why I do like the "old-school" cut/theme of the trailer the voice over nearly ruins it.

I know it's shameful, but I thought that Peter Bogdanovich was dead. Sorry about that, I really feel bad about such ugly understanding of mine ... And, if he reads this, I hope he understands (My apologies, sir) ... Having said that, I must agree with people who dismissed any job opportunity for those who made this trailer. And yeah, movie itself and Imogen Poots look very sweet indeed ...

To quote one of the characters, "it's all very confusing". Glad to see Michael Shannon landed on his feet after Man of Steel.

What's wrong with his part in Man of Steel? That was one very fine and good thing. And the movie itself (save for some Christian rubbish in the narrative) was pretty much satisfying ...

Well, the V.O. certainly helps to that old fashioned feel

Michael Shannon is one fantastic fucking actor. I honestly don't know why the hell he gets put in dumb ass roles such as this. The man deserves more leading roles.
