April 3, 2015
Back in February, we learned that the opening night film of the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival would be a documentary about "Saturday Night Live" perfectly titled Live from New York!. And while the debut of the film is still over a week away, those who can't attend the film festival in New York can take solace in knowing that the film has just been set for a theatrical release this summer on June 12th. This will be the first feature film documentary diving into the history of Lorne Michaels' iconic sketch show, the first and only of its kind, launching the careers of countless comedians for 40 years and still counting. More below!
Here's the first poster for Bao Nguyen's Live from New York! from IndieWire:
Live from New York! is a documentary directed by Bao Nguyen. The film explores the early years of the sketch comedy program "Saturday Night Live" and features archival footage, stolen moments and exclusive commentary from series creator and showrunner Lorne Michaels as well as "SNL" legends, journalists, hosts and crew including but not limited to Chevy Chase, Laraine Newman, John Goodman, Tina Fey, Candice Bergen, Chris Rock, Amy Poehler and Alec Baldwin. The film is slated to premiere in April at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival, and is now set for a limited theatrical release on June 12th this summer. Cool?
Something tells me there will be a lot of struggles but a lot of laughs...and some cocaine use.
