Vivica A. Fox Returns for Roland Emmerich's 'Independence Day 2'

March 24, 2015

Vivica A. Fox

Following the addition of Nymphomaniac star Charlotte Gainsbourg last week, the blockbuster sequel Independence Day 2 has just landed another actress, but this one should be more familiar to fans of the original 1996 alien invasion hit. Vivica A. Fox will be back as Jasmine Dubrow, the stripper who was also the girlfriend of Will Smith and one of the few survivors who made it out of New York City. You may remember that she also had a son, played by Dylan Bagley in the original film, and that's the role Jessie Usher is playing with the kid all grown up. But don't hope that Smith is back, because it's not happening.

The news came straight from Roland Emmerich and Vivica A. Fox on Twitter:

Fox also played a pivotal role in the film since she was responsible for bringing the First Lady to the base where President Whitmore (Bill Pullman) was located, though the president's wife ended up dying. We're not sure how big of a role Fox will have this time, but she joins a cast that already includes Jeff Goldblum returning form the first film as well as new cast member Liam Hemsworth. The script hails from the original film's team of Roland Emmerich (also directing) and Dean Devlin with rewrites from James Vanderbilt and Carter Blanchard. The film is slated for release June 24th, 2016, nearly 20 years after the original.

Add to that the unfortunate plastic surgery.

I thought she escaped from L.A., not N.Y. I guess it's been so long since I watched this movie (eyeroll)

I did too. Pretty sure since his airbase is in Cali, I think, and he did get into a firefight with the aliens near the (grand canyon?) oh and desert, Area 51 being closer to LA than NY...

You're right...LA...remember when the alien ship first arrived they thought it was an earthquake. Then when he went out to get the paper the ship was over the LA skyline.

So? Hope they didn't pay too much.

Emmerich: We got Vivica! Exec: Haha. Real cute. Wait. You're serious? Uh...

Vivica A. Fox being in the sequel without Will Smith, That means his character will most likely be killed off, and Jasmine becomes a single mom raising her kid.

Her kid who is about 25.

Probably the shortest negotiation in film history.

So I guess Charlotte Gainsbourg won't be taking over her role then?

Kickstarter fund to have Alfonso Ribeiro replace Will Smith!?

Akirakorn on Mar 24, 2015

Smith is a tool for not returning.

The only thing that I don't like about this movie so far is that Will Smith isn't coming back, it just doesn't feel right. Hopefully they can get him back for the completion of the trilogy....

Chris Groves on Mar 24, 2015

Pffff what the hell else is she doing. Course shes back.

I remember as a kid watching her "dance scene" and thinking, "Whatever this is...I like it!"
