Even though the 87th Academy Awards are tonight (we'll have the list of winners available here after they're announced), the weekend already saw another celebration for cinema with the 30th Independent Spirit Awards, honoring achievements in independent filmmaking. It's one of those years where there's actually a lot of overlap with the Oscars and the Spirit Awards, with Boyhood, Birdman, Whiplash and Nightcrawler (though Selma got more love from the indie world). You can see the winners right here, but if you missed the ceremony on IFC last night, then you simply must check out this spectacular spoof of Birdman featuring comedians Fred Armisen, Kristen Bell, Bill Hader, Miles Teller and more.
Here's the spoof of Birdman from the Independent Spirit Awards (via Film Independent):
And be sure to check out the "Sesame Street" parody of Birdman with Big Bird right here.
Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance is directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, who co-wrote the script with Nicolás Giacobone & Armando Bo (Biutiful) and newcomer Alexander Dinelaris. The film tells the story of an actor (Michael Keaton), famous for portraying an iconic superhero, as he struggles to mount a Broadway play. In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his ego and attempts to recover his family, his career, and himself. Also starring Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts. Fox Searchlight has the film out on Blu-Ray and DVD right now.
Now that's an intro for an awards show; Fred Armisen can do no wrong.
