Merchants of Doubt

This is a must see documentary that will open your eyes to the insane world of propaganda that surrounds everyone here. Sony Pictures Classics has debuted the official trailer for the doc Merchants of Doubt, from director Robert Kenner (of Food, Inc. previously), that looks at the "pundits-for-hire who present themselves as scientific authorities as they speak about topics like toxic chemicals, pharmaceuticals and climate change." Essentially, it sheds light on the various lobbyists and corporations that fight endlessly to deny facts in order to maintain a political/financial agenda in their favor. I'm quoted in the trailer as I saw this in Telluride. The most interesting connection I can make: remember the group of lobbyists from Jason Reitman's Thank You for Smoking? This is about the real life version of that group. They do really exist.

Here's the trailer for Robert Kenner's documentary Merchants of Doubt, in high def via Apple:

Description from Apple: Inspired by the acclaimed book by Naomi Oreskes & Erik Conway, Merchants of Doubt takes audiences on a satirically comedic, yet illuminating ride into the heart of conjuring American spin. Filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the curtain on a secretive group of highly charismatic, silvertongued pundits-for-hire who present themselves in the media as scientific authorities - yet have the contrary aim of spreading maximum confusion about well-studied public threats ranging from toxic chemicals to pharmaceuticals to climate change. This documentary first premiered at the Telluride, TIFF and New York Film Festivals last fall. Sony Pictures Classics will release Merchants of Doubt in limited theaters starting March 6th this winter. For more info visit the official website. We highly recommend watching this doc.

No poison in fast food, no global warms, all just liberal lies. I'm away to put plastic bags in the sea right now. Looks good, will watch it and get depressed. Woohooo!

Bleh, sounds like its going to be very one sided. At the end of the day, if someone is selling you something, you better know what you are buying. The trailer makes one think that the salesmen are the ones selling the notion that climate change doesn't exist. But it is a two sided affair in which the ones pushing for climate change, and the creation of new laws, regulations, etc that are also making the money. Basically you have two entities trying to make tons of money. You have the oil companies and you have the green energy companies. Neither are on your side. Both are looking out for their own interests.

Maybe in the future the green companies will be starting wars over their wind and solar projects, the same way we've all been fighting over oil for the last 100 years.

yea lets not do anything because of people like you and your small minded imagination about what MIGHT happen a hundred years from NOW.

What are you on about Christian? I was making a comment that for 100 years we've fought over oil resources. From the first world war til today. I imagine in 100 years time, we'll be killing each other over clean drinking water. Hopefully we'll get it together as a species, but I'm not so sure.

i guess you don't understand economics....see when you have a finite resource that can be controlled then you can make huge amounts of profit from it...you can even hold it back from other countries like OPEC does and raise the price. when you have a never ending supply of energy that ANY country, ANYWHERE can produce, you have less of a likelihood of monopolies and price controlling forming.....you also should institute strong GOVERNMENT regulations like anti-trust laws, but i don't wanna lose you.....all I'm saying is you should learn maybe a TIIIIIIIIINY bit about what you pretend to care about.

If I have to pick a side I'll go with science and green energy as the lesser of 2 evils ALL FREAKING DAY LONG.

yea...one sided...the real side....dummy

the two sides aren't climate change believers and climate change non believers, the REAL "sides" are all the opinions about what to do about the oncoming climate change that we are most definitely influencing. I'm so sick of the "well theres two sides to every argument" statement, when it comes to things like this. its like saying there was two sides to slavery, the one side that wanted it and the one side that didn't, and then putting them on equal ground as some twisted debate. grow up.

EVERYONE MAKES MONEY. in every single issue on this planet there are people who make money from it. how stupid is it to say these "two sides" are the same because there is money being made on both sides? I'm sorry but i think the side that is ALREADY the most PROFITABLE business in mankinds history, TODAY, is probably lying and way more powerful than the upcoming green companies.....god stop being so fucking simple. yea 95% of the worlds scientists, AT LEAST, are all in the pockets of the much smaller and less powerful green companies....yes no one is on the peoples side.....
