"There has been an awakening…" Whoa! This isn't a full teaser trailer, but it is a nice new tease with some spine-tingling glimpses of new footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Lucasfilm just dropped this onto the new Star Wars Instagram, and it's barely 15 seconds of footage. Finn lights up his lightsaber and Rey takes a glimpse upwards towards the sky with BB-8 in the background. This is very exciting reveal, especially the hint that Finn and Kylo Ren might be going to battle in the forest. Hopefully we'll be seeing more soon and more is on the way. For now, feast your eyes on this quick glimpse of The Force Awakens.
Here's the brief new footage from J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, posted on Instagram:
You can still catch the second, full teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens here. More soon.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, continuing the beloved original trilogy about Luke, Leia, Han & Chewie that ended in 1983, is directed by J.J. Abrams, of the films Mission: Impossible 3, Star Trek, Super 8 and Star Trek Into Darkness. The screenplay is written by Lawrence Kasdan (Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Return of the Jedi, The Big Chill, The Bodyguard) and J.J. Abrams, with Kathleen Kennedy from Lucasfilm producing. This debut is the beginning of a brand new saga, with another trilogy planned for this storyline, not to mention other standalone movies in this universe. Disney, after acquiring Lucasfilm, will release Star Wars: The Force Awakens in theaters worldwide on December 18th, 2015.

Every little shot we get of this movie sends tingles up and down my spine. Love the shot of Finn holding Luke's lightsaber.

The shot of john boyega looks REALLY bad. The first thing I've seen so far that has me worried.
Santos on Aug 27, 2015
13
Why bad? Keep in mind that the image has been cropped from cinemascope to a 16:9(ish) aspect ratio.
Snev De la Fontaine on Aug 27, 2015
14
Everything from his expression and posture to the framing of the shot and the washed out colors due to the saber glow. It just looks bad...like a fan film

Santos, If you already nit pick so much out of a single frame(s) then you should just not see it.

Says the guy who routinely criticizes movies here...lol
BacoTaco on Aug 27, 2015

I do but after mostly watching the entire thing. Does that make sense? And as this is a movie site, critic is part of the game. Just bashing a single frame is plain stupid. And BTW: There is nothing wrong with 'routinely criticizing' movies. Its just an opinion and my dislike for movie x or y wont take your enjoyment out of it if you liked it.
Sascha Dikiciyan on Aug 28, 2015

You've criticized trailers too....nice try
BacoTaco on Aug 28, 2015

Nice try? Like i have anything to prove to some random anonymous twat on the net? But to be fair, sure I have but not a single tiny frame of film. You need more smartass pills in your tacos...

I have to disagree with you on the shot, but I appreciate that you elaborated on what you meant. The framing seems fairly traditional to me and I actually quite like the different shades of blue in the shot. The lightsaber and the forest at night have a different shade of blue too, so it doesn't look like they just put a quick total color-correction on it. I can see what you mean with his expression and posture. He looks like he's trying to come across as intimidating while being somewhat wooden and awkward, imitating a jedi rather than being one. However, it seems conceivable that that is exactly what the character is doing.
Snev De la Fontaine on Aug 27, 2015

I couldn't disagree more. The footage we've seen definitely distinguishes itself from the 'fan film' corny-ness. Expression and posture makes him look afraid but ready to fight. What type of cinematography did you expect? Framing and coloring is straightforward, which is what I want from a film like this. It feels contemporary with that nostalgic original star wars vibe. Fyi: I'm a casual fan. I'm not blowing my load waiting for this, but it looks great so far.

oh wait...plain and simple? In that case I'm going to ignore my reaction and instead live my life through your eyes having been so thoroughly proven wrong. Now that I have poor taste thanks to you I can finally enjoy Sizzler and Denny's Grand Slams...oh and monster trucks!!! I'm gonna change my name to Dick Chin

But other people should do the same based on your "I'm worried" comment. Just stop being so negative and keep your concerns to yourself.

I don't think it looks bad. Plus we are seeing it from Instagram. It reminds me of the shots of Anakin fighting Dooku when they were lit by their sabers. I always liked that effect.

Those two guys in white from the opening Empire shot look like they are some kind of hip new stormtrooper that wear kulats and oversized masks.

Not for nothing but I really hope Finn is the main character for this trilogy. I just can't see myself enjoying all three movies with Rey as the main antagonist.

the main antagonist seams to be played by andy serkis his character is known as supreme leader snoke

Every time I see Finn in a trailer he seems to be physically over acting, a lot like Britt Robertson did in Tomorrowland.

They have only showed us glimpses of him in intense situations.
Jon Odishaw on Aug 28, 2015

Yet in every scene he's over acting and out of breath. So far he's proving to be the weak link in the trailers. At a certain point it sums up the performance and character (Darth Out of Breath)
