Alice: Through the Looking Glass

It's time! Disney has debuted the first official teaser trailer for Alice Through the Looking Glass. the Alice in Wonderland sequel being directed by James Bobin. Actress Mia Wasikowska returns to play Alice, and Johnny Depp returns as the Mad Hatter, in this adventure that takes us deeper into Underland, and back in Time. In addition, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter return, with the voices of Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen and Timothy Spall. The new characters this time around: Zanik Hightopp (played by Rhys Ifans), the Mad Hatter's father; and Time himself (played by Sacha Baron Cohen), a peculiar creature who is part human, part clock. This looks amusing once the Hatter shows up.

Here's the first teaser trailer for James Bobin's Alice: Through the Looking Glass, on YouTube:

Directed by James Bobin (The Muppets) with a screenplay by Linda Woolverton (Maleficent, Alice In Wonderland, Beauty and the Beast), the film "revisits Lewis Carroll’s beloved stories with an all-new new tale that travels back to Underland—and back in Time." Sacha Baron Cohen as Time and Rhys Ifans as the Mad Hatter's father Zanik Hightopp, join the returning cast, which includes Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter – Hatter Tarrant Hightopp, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen – Mirana, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Mia Wasikowska as the title character of Alice Kingsleigh, Matt Lucas as Tweedledee and Tweedledum, with Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat, and a score by Danny Elfman. Disney will debut Alice Through the Looking Glass in theaters (in 3D) on May 27th, 2016 next summer.

I sorta enjoyed the first one but it was very forgettable, perhaps a rent. I remember hearing that Wasikowska was terrible in the first one but I was pleasantly surprised by her. Also I got a Dark Souls vibe from the trailer oddly enough.

Sacha Baron Cohen looks like a miscast.

I actually think this is right up his alley.

Me too.

I hope Depp decides to make more dramas. This movie and more PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN films have me feeling like it won't happen any time soon.

This one seems to be more generic that the first one (no Burton as the director, of course), but enjoyable at some point. When I catch it on tv someday, huh?

The effects and cinematography were really good. Depp was so overdoing this in the first, making it worse with that final, worthless "dance". Hope he changes it a bit here...
