Watch: Video Game Characters Attack in First Trailer for 'Pixels'

"Some alien life force has sent real-life video games to attack us." You've never seen an alien invasion quite like this. Pixels is coming this summer, a sci-fi action comedy starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage that sees aliens taking the form of classic arcade game characters from Donkey Kong, Centipede, Space Invaders and Pac-Man and wreaking havoc on the world. And that means only a group of gamers from the 80s can stop them. This easily looks like it could be Sandler's best film in a long time. It's even more epic than we thought, but there's definitely some humor here too. Watch below!

Here's the first trailer for Chris Columbus' Pixels, originally from Sony Pictures:

Pixels is directed by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone) and written by Timothy Dowling (Role Models, This Means War) and Adam Sandler, based on the 2010 short film of the same name.  When aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (Kevin James) has to call on his childhood best friend, '80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage) to defeat the aliens and save the planet. Columbia Pictures will release the film in the middle of summer on July 24th.

Wow this movie just looks absolutely ridiculous and stupid and so silly. The dialogue is just filled with cheese and Adam Sandler is in this. And I am still looking forward to seeing this movie anyway, looks like it's going to be tons of fun.

Yeah I haven't been a fan of Adam Sandler movies in too long, and Kevin James doesn't help the film for me, but Dinklage look amazing and I'm enjoying Gad's work. I'll probably see it for the nostalgia of all these classic videos and hope for the best.

Why, hello Toronto 🙂

Maybe on Netflix, maybe.

God this looks terrible. I'll just go watch The Wizard with Fred Savage for nostalgia and save my $13.00.

The Power Glove is so bad.

Oh sad it turned out like this. I had such hopes for a Sandler come back. Should have known better.

DAVIDPD on Mar 17, 2015

I could be into this as long as it doesn't star Adam Sa* ...shit.

The short was fun to see years ago but contextualizing it with aliens reminds me a little too much of Battleship. But this looks even worse cause it has Paul Blart.

There is so much that I like here. The visuals are fantastic, and the comedy isn't obnoxious and it does have this feeling of Ghost Busters which is perfect since this is about people from the 80s and 80s culture. BUT I CAN'T FUCKING STAND THIS CAST. Seriously... I can't... I just can't.

Kento on Mar 17, 2015

So much potential...then I saw the cast

WambaLover on Mar 17, 2015

The movie is supposed to be corny and silly. That's the point. The humor in this is on point especially with Pac-Man's creator scene. Growing up in the 80's with these icons this looks like fun. As for the cast, who cares if Adam Sandler is in it. Why put him down just because of his previous bad flicks. He's not gonna make this film bad just cause he's in it. Besides Josh Gad is in this and he's freakin hillarious.

Jason Scarpelli on Mar 17, 2015

Don't get the appeal of Josh Gad, never found him funny.

Yes 😀

80s gamer here, wasn't that interested in the film, but looks like big dumb fun 🙂

Huh! Intriguing. Will see due to curiosity! Guess I missed the Adam Sandler hate train. (& who doesn't love some Dinklage - exception for Knights of Badassdom, that flick was terribad)

KOB was great! Come on!

TheOct8pus on Mar 18, 2015

I wanted to like it, really I did, just fell flat for me. I'm generally pretty forgiving as well! That one just didn't make my cut. 🙁

avconsumer2 on Mar 18, 2015

It was a pretty bad movie, but I guess that's what I liked about it. It felt like parts of it were filmed in someone's backyard with no script.

TheOct8pus on Mar 18, 2015

Sandler is irrelevant and this looks completely predictable. He needs this to be big, but it will fail hard.

It looks like a bad Wreck-it Ralph. If it has enough fan service, maybe. A actor playing Toru Iwatani is a nice touch, I would love to see Shigeru Miyamoto as a cameo.

really no shout out to the original short film, (which looks better than this i might add)

Matthew Sam Russell on Mar 18, 2015

You guys have got to get the sticks out of your butts. This flick is meant for kids and their nostalgic parents. It will be a lot of fun for both groups. Go back to arguing about the appropriateness of the new Star Wars lightsaber.

This is an episode of Futurama - "Reincarnation."
