Zac Efron to Star in 'Mark & Dave Need Wedding Dates' for Fox
After bringing some pretty big laughs in last summer's hit comedy Neighbors, young star Zac Efron is sticking with comedy for a new project called Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. As if the title wasn't explanatory enough, THR reports the film will follow two brothers who post an online ad for wedding dates. Presumably they'll encounter some bad options in their search, making for some comedy. The film will actually reunite Efront with Neighbors producers and writers Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O'Brien, who also had scripting duties on this new comedy set up at Fox. But just who will be directing?
Jake Szymanski will be directing, and he already worked with Efron on this Funny or Die short:
Szymanski also has experience directing several episodes of "Saturday Night Live," as well as a Christmas episode of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" back in 2013, and tons more shorts for Funny or Die. This promises to be his biggest project yet, and with Efron in one of the lead roles, it's bound to be a big hit with audiences. But now we're wondering who will play the other titular lead role. Efron is certainly on a comedy run lately with both Neighbors and That Awkward Moment, and he's currently shooting Dirty Grandpa with Robert De Niro which is set for release on August 12th, 2016. Stay tuned for more updates. Interested?
"Presumably they'll encounter some bad options in their search, making for some comedy." I like how matter-of-fact and direct this description is.
