Ghost in the Shell Trailer

"I know I have a past… I'll find out who I was." Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first full trailer for Rupert Sanders' live-action Ghost in the Shell movie, starring Scarlett Johansson as "The Major". Adapting from the manga and anime, the movie is about a "one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid" who leads an elite task force as part of Section 9. She goes on the hunt to find a hacker criminal who wants to destroy all the technology at Hanka Robotics. Also starring Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche, Michael Wincott, Rila Fukushima, Chin Han, filmmaker Takeshi Kitano, Joseph Naufahu, with Pilou Asbæk as Batou. The first teasers didn't show much, but now we get a look at the action and I have to say - this looks totally awesome. I'm impressed they actually made a movie that really, truly looks like the anime. Bring it.

Here's the first full trailer (+ poster) for Rupert Sanders' Ghost in the Shell movie, direct from YouTube:

UNREAL! Now i want AKIRA live action, come on Hollywood!

Paddy McManus on Nov 13, 2016

I'd certainly expect more Japanese adaptations if this performs well. You could look into many of the already made Japanese live action adaptations. They are pretty...interesting.

DAVIDPD on Nov 13, 2016

I think I'd prefer a movie inspired by Akira, rather than a direct copy. Akira has such a good look, but I imagine it would be lost in the modernisation process. Crazy to think Akira is nearly 30 years old now and is still one of the best films ever made.

Carpola on Nov 13, 2016

I'm pretty amped about this one, but would totally be ok if they just left Akira tf alone to be honest, lol (even though I know that won't happen). I agree with you 110%, I feel like many aspects of that film just can't be translated properly to a live-action adaptation.

Jeff Prioleau on Nov 14, 2016

Tricky in there at the end? Some amazing scenes in there.

Carpola on Nov 13, 2016

Takeshi Kitano in it? Oh yes, I could watch him. Of course, a lot of effort was put in this. I don't expect much from the story, I certainly don't expect to be better than original, but I do expect a visual fest. That combined, it will make a good evening out with friends ...

At first as I thought they touched up her eyes to make them look more "Asian"...glad that was just some squinting.

Looks pretty great

Sick of shitty covers of great songs for trailers.

Higgens on Nov 13, 2016

Never seen the anime, but that looked pretty damn beautiful. And I agree with Higgens. The trend of using bastardized versions of good songs needs to go away. Enjoy the Silence is one of my favorite 80s songs, and that was terrible.

Sorry, but this looks rather cheap

naundob on Nov 14, 2016

This looks anything but cheap...

TheOct8pus on Nov 14, 2016

Yeah, how does this look cheap?

Panzerknecker on Nov 15, 2016

Visually this looks good. Great adaptation from original animated film to live action. Those classic scenes from the original are very similar...and the locations (whether they're CGI or sets) look very similar to the original feature. I love the run down buildings in the "stealth mode" fight...

TheOct8pus on Nov 14, 2016

Looks cool!

Bill on Nov 14, 2016

Visually accurate, however, in the OG Ghost in the Shell, was she trying to figure out "her past"? I don't remember that angle necessarily, and it seems like a cliche plot device these days.... I dug the Enjoy the Silence cover. Hope this delivers...

Sort of, her life wasn't "saved" either. They were playing with her memories though.

Panzerknecker on Nov 15, 2016

I don't know the source material at all, but since Beat Takeshi is in it, it must be awesome. Put his name on a project, it changes from Hunger Games to Battle Royale!

bumboclot on Nov 15, 2016

Looks good but I'm worried a lot of people are going to automatically think of Lucy when they see this, and I don't think that's a good thing since I think I was one of six people in the nation that actually like that movie.
