No way! Say it isn't true! This may just be a Golden Globes rumor, but it might also end up being true. Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller, who just received a nomination from the Directors Guild Awards, is apparently not planning to make any more Mad Max movies again. In one of their recaps of celebrity musings from the Golden Globes, they include quotes from George Miller where he apparently straight up says: "I won't make more Mad Max movies. Fury Road… was forever getting completed." Ouch. Apparently the extended production was rough enough that he's no longer interested in more. Which is understandable.

Here's the entire set of quotes from Miller found on Page Six, without any more context or info, oddly:

Australian director of the snubbed Mad Max: Fury Road George Miller: "I won’t make more 'Mad Max' movies. 'Fury Road' with Charlize Theron, Zoë Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Riley Keough was forever getting completed. If you finish one in a year, it's considered a leap of faith. Start, stop, start again.

"I've shot in Australia in a field of wild flowers and flat red earth when it rained heavily forever. We had to wait 18 months and every return to the US was 27 hours. Those 'Mad Maxes' take forever. I won’t do those anymore."

With the awards season in full swing over these next few months, it's exciting to see Mad Max: Fury Road appearing so many places. It just goes to show that the film was more than just a box office success, it was an outstanding cinematic creation, that has earned immense amounts of justified acclaim. It took years to make, with production delays and "start, stop, start again" (as Miller puts it) troubles, but somehow they finished. And it turned out quite beautiful in many ways. It makes sense that Miller might be done, having finished with this ready move on, but Warner Bros could also lure him back (if they promise the production won't be such a pain). Only time will tell what happens, as nothing is confirmed or announced by the studio.

George Miller directed the original Mad Max film in 1979, as well as the two sequels, co-directing Beyond Thunderdome with George Ogilvie. In the 30 years between those films and Fury Road, Miller went on to direct The Witches of Eastwick, Lorenzo's Oil, Babe: Pig in the City, Happy Feet and Happy Feet 2. It seems he'd rather let someone else take over the Mad Max series now that he brought it back to life again with Fury Road. He did also mention recently how many talented filmmakers are out there, saying (via The Playlist): "People are directing younger and younger, they're getting a real sense of cinema very, very early, and there's some great directors out there." We'll keep watch for updates on Mad Max and George Miller.

Yeh, thank god right? Poor journalism is the cause of this, not from FS but from the interviewer who first reported.

As I learned from the end-credits song from Jayden Smith's THE KARATE KID, never say never.

How can he top his own masterpiece? He's going out on a high note, and I respect him greatly for it. Fury Road was phenomenal.

It's actually false, he's making two more. This was assumed wrongly based on a poorly worded interview.
