Terminator 2 3D

"The unknown future rolls toward us. I face it, for the first time, with a sense of hope. Because if a machine, a Terminator, can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too." Get ready for the return of the Terminator movie we all love. James Cameron's 1991 sci-fi classic Terminator 2: Judgement Day is being re-released in theaters in 2017 in 3D. The Facebook page for the T2 movie confirmed and released a poster to go along with the news. If, like me, you went to one of the Universal Studios theme parks as a kid you probably fondly remember the Terminator 2 ride in 3D (called "T2 3-D: Battle Across Time"), pretty much the best use of 3D up until Cameron gave us Avatar. Here's to hoping this 3D conversion is as good.

Here's the poster for Terminator 2: Judgment Day in 3D in 2017 officially released to announce the news:

Terminator 2 3D Poster

The announcement on Facebook included this great line: "August 29th 1997: The day Skynet first became self aware. August 29th 2016: the day you first saw the brand new poster for Terminator 2 in 3D. Coming to theaters in 2017." James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgement Day was first released in theaters in July of 1991. An IMAX version of the film was released earlier this year. Linda Hamilton stars as Sarah Connor, with Arnold Schwarzenegger returning as The Terminator, plus Edward Furlong as John Connor, and Robert Patrick as the T-1000. No other details were announced yet, including who is responsible for the 3D conversion and if Cameron is involved. We also don't know the exact date in 2017 it will arrive, but we'll keep you updated once info is available. The top image is from the T2 3-D ride in Florida. Going to see this?

This still stands as some of the best special effects work in the history of film. I'll be damned if the T-1000 doesn't look as good as many modern day films.

I tried the 3D conversion once, when they re-released Jurassic Park a few years back. Terrible. Looked like everything was layered on glass panels, one in front of the other. Hopefully that won't be an issue with this, as I'd love to see this in theaters again.

Yeah, that's why I'm wondering if Cameron is involved in overseeing the 3D conversion for this one... I remember he was all over the Titanic 3D conversion, but in the end that didn't fare well either... Only time will tell.

I saw it in Florida and it was spectacular! I might still watch it again in an ordinary cinema.

Wait - you already saw the 3D version of this? I don't think it has been released yet? Or do you mean you saw the regular T2 and are planning to see it again when it's released in 3D?

I think he means the 'battle across time' at Universal, that or he's from the future 🙂

That's what I was thinking, too... But I hope this post isn't confusing anyone - the full T2 movie is being converted! Don't think the ride is coming to theaters.

Shame - only seen the ride on youtube and it looks better than any other Terminator film after T2....

Yes, that's what I meant. 🙂

Sorry, I meant that I visited Universal studios in Florida and saw "T2 3-D: Battle Across Time".

Ah cool!! Yes. Me too, me too. Love that ride...

You have no idea how happy this makes me. I will see it over and over and over again to support the Terminator franchise when it was respectable 25 years ago.

If the 3D post conversion was supervised by Cameron, then It's assuredly worth a watch. Because 99% of post converted 3D movies looks like crap. No more HFR. No more 3D. Just bigger screens and more affordable pop corn. NB: I want to see Avatar 2 exclusively in 3D though.

By far the best terminator movie ever, and maybe the best Cameron movie (aliens was also great), so maybe i will give it a chance if the word of mouth is okay...

Cameron is a genius. Period. But to me, Aliens is the gold standard to date that redefined the action/sci-fi genre. I watched it in the movies once and on VHS maybe 50 times. ;D Best James Horner score also (RIP). they are still using few motifs from "futile escape" in many trailers to highlight stressful scenes. Aliens score belongs to my top 10 scores of all time.

Hands down agree. Love Aliens but it doesn't come close.

There was never an IMAX version of T2 released.

Post converted 3D movies always look terrible to me. I have little faith here despite Cameron's involvement. Now give the man a 3D camera setup and the outcome will be nothing short of genius....because that's what the man is 😉

ugh...how about a 4K restoration instead of a trashy 3D conversion

I don't know for you Bo, but I find the original Terminator more effective than T2.
