Good news, Godzilla fans! The new Godzilla movie from Toho Company in Japan will actually be hitting US theaters this year as well. Godzilla Resurgence, or Shin Gojira as its known in Japan, opens in theaters over there starting July 29th - this month. Announced during Comic-Con, anime distributor Funimation has revealed that they will be releasing Shin Gojira in US theaters sometime in "late 2016". The announcement was made on Funimation's Twitter, but no exact date has been set yet, though we expect to see it sometime late in the fall around November or December. We just posted the latest full trailer for Godzilla Resurgence this week and I think it looks badass, hearkening back to the original man-in-suit films from the 1950s-60s.

Above is the tweet sent out by Funimation announcing the release in the film's US later this year. Godzilla Resurgence is co-directed by Japanese filmmaking legends Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion) and Shinji Higuchi (known for his visual effects for the Gamera trilogy). The screenplay is credited to Hideaki Anno. "Funimation is extremely pleased to be working with Toho to bring Shin Godzilla to audiences across the Americas," said Gen Fukunaga, CEO and President of Funimation. It looks like the title here will actually be Shin Godzilla. Shin Gojira is a Japanese tokusatsu kaiju film – a live action science fiction monster movie featuring special effects. It is the 29th Godzilla film produced by Toho. Stay tuned an exact release.

"Shin" can be loosely translated as "new". // DIG.

...Gojira here looks too much like a damn "Titan", plus his eyes look like that of a freaking giant salamander's. In other words, I hate this design so freaking much, man. Hell, at least the 2014 version actually looks like the original Toho design, here, it looks like the director went too far with the damn "Attack on Titan" reference.

been a G-man fan since the late 70's so not worried about how skinny his arms are or anything cause it's G-man!!!! just love the fact the Japanese stepped up and made a Godzilla film!!! the americans movie co.s suck at Godzilla anyways. I'll save comments for after the film. hope it's good. You do have to keep in mind that Toho DID NOT make this film for the west. It was made for Japan really about the disasters of Fukushima and the corrupt politics that ensued. They are releasing it to theaters b-cause it did so well in japan. From what I hear people will prob not like all the different "agencies" bickering and all instead of G-man smashing Tokyo!!! which form??? who knows?? it will and should be the most interesting reboot because they show how he "came about" hey Gareth...hardly knew yee.
