Talented Young Actor Anton Yelchin Has Died in Freak Car Accident

Horrible news to report today. Actor Anton Yelchin has died in a freak car accident at his home today in California. He was 27 years old and already very accomplished, with lead roles in quite a few films. Reports indicate that he was killed by his own car, which rolled down a steep hill in neutral and pinned him against a brick pillar. "It appears he had exited his car and was behind it when the vehicle rolled down a steep driveway," the LAPD said in a statement (via Variety). Yelchin was born in Leningrad in the former Soviet Union, and his family moved to the United States when he was just six months old. He started his acting career at age 9, and has been landing prominent roles for the last 10 years. What a tragedy, so sad to hear.
Yelchin's big breakout roles were Alpha Dog and Charlie Bartlett, in 2006 and 2007, and from there he has appeared in quite a few few feature films. He played Chekov in the new Star Trek series, and Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation. He also starred in Like Crazy, The Beaver, Fright Night, Odd Thomas, Only Lovers Left Alive, Rudderless, Cymbeline, Burying the Ex, Dying of the Light, Experimenter, Broken Horses, and The Driftless Area. His most recent release was Green Room, about the punk rock band trapped in a white supremacist venue. He finished work for the upcoming films We Don't Belong Here, Porto, Thoroughbred and the next Star Trek sequel, Star Trek Beyond. The status of his upcoming work has yet to be confirmed.
I loved Anton Yelchin so much. He was a true artist - curious, beautiful, courageous. He was a great pal and a great son. I'm in ruins.

I met and interviewed Anton Yelchin many times. Was always so nice and humble and a great person to talk to. Stunned to hear the news.

Plenty of Anton's friends and colleagues took to Twitter to express their sadness over his death. Many have pointed out how talented and hard-working he was, and critics have noted how much he challenged himself with diverse roles, big and small, and always seemed to be passionate about the performance he was giving no matter what. This is a very sad loss because he was so young and so talented and had such an incredible career ahead of him, but had also delivered so many memorable performances already. He left an impact on me with the film Like Crazy, which I often still think about because the love shown in it was so convincing. Many folks are feeling the sadness of his death, but he will certainly be remembered fondly. Rest in peace.

I saw that last night and didn't believe it. Sad to see someone so young die, well, anyone die so young. Really liked Odd Thomas.

This guy was the PERFECT Chekov for the Star Trek reboots! Hell, I even thought he did a decent job in the Fright Night remake! So much talent....taken away too soon. Just.... WAY too soon =(

Now way for proper reaction to this. Incredible tragedy. I have seen him in many movies (and certainly planned more of them) and I think that he was real refreshment in them Somebody somewhere said about him that his naivete in the movies was real and natural. I don't wish to call him naive, but real and natural were close to his way of performing. As such, I will remember him. Yeah, somebody mentioned Rudderless. That's also one of the latest of his films that I he saw. And I enjoyed it very much. As for his family, I can only feel, as already stated, true compassion for them ...

This news actually shocks me as well. His career seemed to be taking off with Green Room and the other movie(s?) he did this year. I remember seeing him as a young teen in a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode. Very sad to hear about this.
