"This is how it happens, isn't it, Pete?" Just a few weeks ago, The Academy revealed the full list of nominees for the 2016 Academy Awards. This year there were eight films nominated for Best Picture, including two science fiction features, a Steven Spielberg movie, an expose on the 2008 financial collapse, and a couple of very powerful dramas. This video, made by Jacob T. Swinney, is just a recap of this year's nominations with clips edited to some good music. It even includes a David Bowie track, the same one from The Martian. But more than anything it's a wonderful look back at all of 2015's best film nominees. Have you seen all of them?
Found on Vimeo. This was edited by Jacob T. Swinney - of the magic hour retrospective, the first & final Frames comparison, and that compilation of cinematic lens flares. The nominations for Best Picture at the 88th Academy Awards are: The Big Short, directed by Adam McKay; Bridge of Spies, directed by Steven Spielberg; Brooklyn, directed by John Crowley; Mad Max: Fury Road, directed by George Miller; The Martian, directed by Ridley Scott; The Revenant, directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu; and Spotlight, directed by Tom McCarthy. Most of these also ended up on my own Top 12 of 2015. Which one is your pick?

SPOTLIGHT is going to get it. But THE REVENANT has a bit of a chance too. Personally, I'd love to see MAD MAX FURY ROAD get it.

I have seen all of them with Mad Max being the only one I didn't catch in theaters and Brooklyn being the only one I didn't see before the nominations were announced. I hope Spotlight wins as I personally felt Spotlight and Room were the two best, but I believe The Revenant is on a roll that can't be stopped and wouldn't be shocked if it wins.

You left out ROOM. I'll be happy with a win for that or Spotlight.

All the hype is around The Revenant right now and that can't be anything but positive. I think it may be a little to brutal for best picture. I wish Mad Max would win. I think It stands alone from the others. It's such a spectacle of a movie. I really need to check out Spotlight. Loved Ruffalo in The Zodiac. Lord of the Rings is the king of Oscars so anything is possible!
