Morgan Trailer IBM

Now this is unique marketing. Fox has partnered with IBM to create a special trailer for the sci-fi Morgan, about an artificially created being. It was made by IBM's Watson and is the first-ever AI-created movie trailer. "Utilizing experimental Watson APIs and machine learning techniques, the IBM Research system analyzed hundreds of horror/thriller movie trailers. After learning what keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, the AI system suggested the top 10 best candidate moments for a trailer from the movie Morgan, which an IBM filmmaker then edited and arranged together." The film stars Kate Mara as an expert called in to analyze the realistic aspects of an artificial person known as "Morgan", played by Anya Taylor-Joy. They've been pushing some really fantastic marketing for this film, I just hope it all pays off. Have a watch.

Here's the new IBM Watson-creared trailer for Luke Scott's Morgan, direct from Fox's YouTube:

You can still watch the first teaser trailer for Morgan here, as well as the full theatrical trailer here.

A corporate troubleshooter (Kate Mara) is sent to a remote, top-secret location, where she is to investigate and evaluate a terrifying accident. She learns the event was triggered by a seemingly innocent "human," who presents a mystery of both infinite promise and incalculable danger. Morgan is directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Luke Scott, the son of director Ridley Scott, making his feature debut after a few short films previously. The screenplay is written by Seth W. Owen, along with Luke Scott. It's produced by Ridley Scott, Michael Schaefer, and Mark Huffam. 20th Century Fox is planning to release Luke Scott's Morgan in theaters starting on September 2nd later this year. That's a pretty good trailer. I appreciate the lack of violence as opposed to the human version. As well as the lack of total explanation. I want more trailers from my fellow robot.

Let's just let WATSON engineer all of our trailers from now on.

Cool idea...and over Bo's head

Damn it! I expected to hear her say: "You know nothing Morgan". I am really intrigued and interested by this. could be a worthy successor to Ex Machina. Do you believe artificial intelligence (read artificial consciousness) will exist one day? I doubt it...

If nature can create it then it is bound by the laws of computation...therefore man can create it given enough time

Dr. Dobb on Sep 2, 2016

6

If archaeologists will find a Porsche Carrera in a cretaceous boundary, would it be possible that would have created it?

7

So in other words you don't know any laws of computation that are violated. Game, set, match.

what does computational science have to do with artificial intelligence?

That's like saying "what does Relativity have to do with Physics"

Dr. Dobb on Sep 2, 2016

And what does relativity have to do with physics?

You're not too bright are you

Dr. Dobb on Sep 2, 2016

And what does brightness have to do with me?

very little...lol

If you've lost your keys Alicia, I can't be of any help.

..lol...how the heck did I miss this bit of interesting bantering?...and after your counter/Alicia was deleted. Poop!...lol...

In fact, I don't. Any artificial form of human mind will always imitate in some respect humans. Artificial will always be reflection of human, no matter how good that might get done ...

shiboleth on Sep 3, 2016

17

Exactly. People confuse good programming and intelligence (read consciousness)

So, just to be clear, all Watson did was choose 6 minutes of footage from the film, which a human editor then had to assemble into a trailer. So essentially, Watson is a really exepensive production assistant that can't get you coffee.

No, it's an expensive gimmick. A very clever, expensive gimmick, nevertheless.

I am probably minority here seeing a cliche in this ...

In an AI created trailer? Yes...very cliched don't do drugs kids
