Independence Day: Resurgence

"We convinced an entire generation that this is a battle we could win… And that's worth fighting for!" To celebrate Earth Day, Fox has debuted the second trailer for Roland Emmerich's Independence Day: Resurgence. Funny enough, this has lots of footage of Earth being destroyed by malevolent aliens back after 20 years extremely pissed that we defeated their first batch of ships. Starring Jeff Goldblum, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Liam Hemsworth, William Fichtner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Vivica A. Fox and Sela Ward. There's also a fun PSA from the Earth Space Defense with Goldblum talking about saving Earth. This really looks awesome, I can't wait to see it. Tons of destruction and humans fighting back.

Here's the second trailer for Roland Emmerich's Independence Day: Resurgence, from Fox's YouTube:

And here's the must-see Earth Day PSA made for Independence Day: Resurgence, also from YouTube:

Independence Day 2 is being once again directed by Roland Emmerich. As for returning cast members – Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner and recently confirmed Bill Pullman and Judd Hirsch will all be back as their characters from the first film. William Fichtner and Maika Monroe are new additions. The sequel is supposed to take place 20 years after the events of the first film, which will be real time, almost to the day, from when the original was released. Emmerich is directing again with a script that he co-wrote with Dean Devlin and James Vanderbilt. 20th Century Fox currently has Independence Day: Resurgence scheduled to land in theaters June 24th, 2016 this summer. Watch the first full trailer here. Excited yet?

Hahaha!!! "They like to get the landmarks" -classic line. But seriously, this looks like a trainwreck.....

I enjoy watching Roland's train wrecks

Jon Odishaw on Apr 22, 2016

Autocorrect, I imagine? Most of Roland's big budget destruction movies are the cinematic equivalent to building a little village out of Legos when you're a kid, and taking your godzilla toy, or a GI Joe plane and destroying everything. Somehow, one little lego man manages to save the day by throwing a transformer at godzilla and blowing up the "bad guys"..... All in good fun, but cheesy as hell.

TheOct8pus on Apr 22, 2016

Thats why I love it! he never makes it too serious. You're right, its fun and cheesy and I will always see his films.

Jon Odishaw on Apr 22, 2016

I'm with you Jon. Always fun to watch. Can't wait to see this. Still wish Smith was in it though.

They are just too fat.

Looking like a fun movie - ID4 was the first film I saw with the future wife, so we'll be going back for more destruction 🙂

Steven on Apr 22, 2016

It's good Jeff still gets the pay checks.

I guess, the good side of this is the fact that Michael Bay would do much worse. So, it's not so bad. Other than that, man, you wish to root for aliens. And besides, they remind me somehow on those aliens from the other franchise. And that makes me think should I really root for them. Very serious dilemma...

shiboleth on Apr 22, 2016

Well this looks damn epic! So next month Captain America, and than in the summer this mayhem blockbuster. A good year for Ari...

As long as there is plenty of stuttering, I will be happy.

DAVIDPD on Apr 23, 2016

I have zero interest in this... The first movies was actually pretty dumb but it had some killer special F/X. It was pretty hard to watch the second time.

Bill on Apr 23, 2016

How many cliches can you fit into one trailer? It can't be ALL bad, it is Will Smith-free isn't it?

Charles Knowlton on Apr 24, 2016

Will Smith-free is a plus... unless they put one of his creepy kids in it!

Bill on Apr 25, 2016

This may look bad but this is the kind of film you go to IMAX for. Special effects fest!
