The Driftless Area Trailer

"The one who did this to you, he's gunna be made to pay." Sony has debuted a trailer for this direct-to-VOD drama called The Driftless Area, which features an impressive cast but that's about it. Anton Yelchin stars along with Alia Shawkat (both of them play a punk rock band in A24's Green Room as well), plus the cast includes Zooey Deschanel, Frank Langella, Aubrey Plaza, John Hawkes and CiarĂ¡n Hinds. This story is described as "a contemporary fable about the ways we struggle to control time and fate in a possibly predetermined universe". The trailer introduces this as some kind of ghost story, where Yelchin can see a girl killed in a fire, and he tries to figure out what happened. Now I see why this is skipping theaters.

Here's the first official trailer for Zachary Sluser's The Driftless Area, originally from Yahoo:

Pierre Hunter (Anton Yelchin), a bartender with unyielding optimism, returns to his tiny hometown after his parents' death. When he falls for the enigmatic Stella (Zooey Deschanel), Pierre is unknowingly pulled into a cat-and-mouse game that involves a duffel bag full of cash, a haphazard yet determined criminal (John Hawkes), and a mystery that will determine all of their fates. The Driftless Area is directed by newcomer Zachary Sluser, making his feature directing debut after making three shorts previously. The screenplay is written by Zachary Sluser, adapted from Tum Drury's novel of the same name. Sony Pictures will release The Driftless Area directly to VOD and DVD starting April 26th this year. Anyone interested?

Great cast, seems kind of interesting, but the trailer was way too long.

Whoa, is that the kid who played the teen magician in Curb Your Enthusiasm? I just watched that episode recently! Oh and the movie looks like someone forced a quirky indie romance with a noir-ish crime thriller. Hmm, not sure if it mixes well.

Is Yelchin drinking the same stuff as Dorian Grey? This is going exactly where it should be.

A bit messy trailer but I like tone of it. Although the whole story is a bit of overstretch ...

Will probably watch it, eventually.

Deschanel looks like she's going to be terrible.
