2017 Academy Awards Winners

The 89th Academy Awards are upon us and it's time to watch the show and discover the winners of the most prestigious award in Hollywood. The Oscar ceremony is being broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood with the esteemed Jimmy Kimmel as our host of the show this year. "Can’t Stop the Feeling!" - Trolls
Winner! "City of Stars" - La La Land
"The Empty Chair" - Jim: The James Foley Story
"How Far I'll Go" - Moana

Final Thoughts: Okay, so everything didn't exactly go as planned. I was expecting La La Land to win Best Picture, and for a moment, it seemed like that was the case. I am happy with Moonlight winning, I just would've preferred to see La La Land take it home. It's my personal favorite and I've been rooting for it all along. Oh well. It won quite a few other awards, which is good enough. I'm satisfied with the two screenplay winners, both of those usually end up going to the right films - and that's definitely the case this year. I'm not happy about Suicide Squad or Zootopia winning, but again, nothing I can do. No matter how you feel, this is a very odd and unforgettable year at the Oscars. The show and the awards were not what we expected.

Everything aside...Ben's reaction to Casey winning was adorable.

Xerxexx on Feb 26, 2017

I got emotional when I saw Ben holding back his tears. Casey deserves his Oscar. He's an underrated and humble actor.

And it was a great performance in that film, particularly in the police station and when he meets is ex.

Payne by name on Feb 28, 2017

Best animated feature was Zootopia?!? Man they are idiots...

RAW_D on Feb 26, 2017

Nope. They are Disney worshipers.

tarek on Feb 27, 2017

Not too bummed for La La Land.

Xerxexx on Feb 26, 2017

I can't believe that actually happened!!! What a kick in the nuts for the LaLa Land guys. But the film won a ton of others. Guess that's the last time they get 80 year olds to do anything important live. Lol

David Diaz on Feb 26, 2017

Thought Moonlight was well deserving of best picture to be honest with you. I liked La La Land but Moonlight tackled bolder themes and did it really well. I thought Kubo definitely should have won best Animated. I also thought Moana should have won best original song for How Far I'll Go. I still happen to think that Hacksaw Ridge was the best movie out of all of them but the Gibson's past indescretions really kicked that movie in the the teeth.

TK on Feb 26, 2017

I agree on Hacksaw Ridge. The themes of humility, quiet conviction in one's beliefs and staggering heroism were all admirable themes that resonated with me deeply. Disappointing that for all of everyone's talk of tolerance and inclusion, people still can't move on with Gibson despite his penance.

Payne by name on Feb 27, 2017

Mel is a boss. So people can go hang themselves.

tarek on Feb 27, 2017

I haven't seen Moonlight yet so cannot compare it to La la land. However, the musical is a modern classic with or without the best picture award.

David Velázquez on Feb 27, 2017

I wish Ryan Gosling took the Best Actor Oscar... he and Emma Stone did a wonderful job in their roles. Casey Affleck was the expected winner in any case... I am just super duper relieved that Meryl Streep did not win! They need to stop giving her Oscars for every little thing she does! It's enough, now! There are far better actresses out there. I believe Amy Adams was more deserving of the nomination than Streep.

Moe on Feb 27, 2017

La La Land deserved its 14 nominations x 5 wins (extra big ups to Emma!! I wanted her to win!)! Damien Chazelle accomplished a damn good follow up to Whiplash x wining Best Director was warranted; I can't wait to see what he does next. The fight for Best Pictire was really scary, x I wasn't too too upset ha when La La Land was announced but that JUSTIFIED STEAL FROM MOONLIGHT THOUGH! Moonlight was just the better resonating film. I was pleased this year. Jimmy surprised me!

Brandon Cole on Feb 27, 2017

Sad that The Lobster didn't win Screenplay. Also would've been great to see Pear Cider and Cigarettes win Best Animated Short... Pixar doesn't need another Oscar when such a fantastic indie short has been made. Glad to see Chazelle win, though; totally deserved.

Terry Craig on Feb 27, 2017

agreed for the lobster and Disney/Pixar. I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't give a C**p about La La Land. Too much ado. It's better than the notebook though. (which I don't give a c**p too).

tarek on Feb 27, 2017

The trailers are misleading. It's much more than what it is marketed to be

What a giant circle jerk....

TheOct8pus on Feb 27, 2017

Honestly, I am quite happy with the results.

DAVIDPD on Feb 27, 2017

I honestly feel the same way.

Brandon Cole on Feb 28, 2017

Me too

Joker's hideout on Mar 3, 2017

I was hoping Mad Max got another award ;p

Cyberdine on Feb 28, 2017

I'm sorry, as much as I like Mahershala Ali (he's amazing in house of cards, seems a great guy), just can't understand why he won for moonlight. He was in it for no more than 10 minutes, it's not a groundbreaking or remarkable performance and certainly not the best in the movie. I just don't get this one. Specially with Michael Shannon and Bridges doing the work they did

Ricardo_PT on Feb 28, 2017

This one's easy. Racial tension stuff. That's why he won.
