The Long Walk Trailer

"That old man said… you died fifty years ago." Yellow Veil Pictures has released an official trailer for The Long Walk, a slow born indie sci-fi horror film from the country of Laos (see Google Maps). This initially premiered at the 2019 Venice Film Festival playing in the "Venice Days" sidebar, and it also played at TIFF and Fantastic Fest and the Sitges Film Festival a few years ago. Made by a Laotian filmmaker named Mattie Do, this film has earned some rave reviews. She is the first and only woman filmmaker from Laos, and the only filmmaker of the country to work in the horror and fantastic genres. An old Laotian hermit discovers the ghost of a road accident victim can transport him back in time 50 years to the moment of his mother's painful death. Starring Yannawoutthi Chanthalungsy, Vilouna Phetmany, Por Silatsa, Noutnapha Soydara, Chanthamone Inoudome, and Vithaya Sombath. This is a very cool film, with some original ideas that we've never really seen before. If this kind of quiet horror is your jam, you really need to see this.

Here's the official US trailer (+ posters) for Mattie Do's The Long Walk, direct from YouTube:

An old scavenger (Yannawoutthi Chanthalungsy) living on the fringes of a near-future society exploits a ghostly companion's ability to traverse time, hoping to prevent his mother’s suffering from a terminal illness. A deliberately paced story that burns with intensity and human emotion, The Long Walk is all at once a culturally rich ghost story, a grim near-future sci-fi, and mystery with life and death stakes that span decades. The Long Walk, originally known as Bor Mi Vanh Chark in Lao, is directed by the Laotian filmmaker Mattie Do, director of the movies Chanthaly and Dearest Sister previously. The screenplay is written by Christopher Larsen. This initially premiered at the 2019 Venice Film Festival in the Venice Days sidebar, and also played at TIFF and Fantastic Fest. Yellow Veil will release Mattie Do's The Long Walk in select US theaters on February 18th, 2022, then on VOD starting March 1st. Visit the film's official site.
