Polar Bear Trailer

"Somehow she must teach her cubs how to live & thrive in one of the world's most extreme environments." That is being ruined by humanity. Disney has revealed an official trailer for their next new Disneynature documentary film titled Polar Bear, a charming look at a polar bear mother and her cubs. It's important to mention that while this is a trailer for an upcoming movie, Disney seems to be prioritizing content hype to cover up news about everything else is going on with them. We highly recommend you read this Pixar letter about some of what's happening. The Polar Bear movie follows a new mother as she prepares to navigate motherhood in the challenging world that polar bears face today. Disneynature and the Disney Conservation Fund will continue their longstanding commitment to caring for wildlife and their habitats by supporting Polar Bears International (PBI). I hope this film talks about climate change because it is definitely affecting polar bears and their survival, and it's important that this is discussed and not avoided in a movie like this.

Rootwood Trailer

"Two powerful stories that show just how far family can take you." Disneynature has debuted one trailer for two of their upcoming nature documentaries: Elephant and Dolphin Reef. With the current situation, Disney has decided to release both directly to Disney+ for streaming next week. Usually they release a new Disneynature movie in theaters (and IMAX) once a year in April, but now they're releasing two right away. By now, everyone knows what to expect with these nature docs. Elephant, narrated by Meghan Markle, follows an African elephant named Shani and her son Joao as their heard make an epic journey across the Kalashnikov Desert. Dolphin Reef, narrated by Natalie Portman, follows Echo, a bottlenose dolphin who can't quite decide if it's time to grow up and take on new responsibilities – or give in to his silly side and just have fun. Dolphin society is tricky, and the coral reef that Echo and his family call home depends on all of its inhabitants to keep it healthy. (Including humans, right?) Both will be available to view on Disney+ soon.

Penguins Trailer

"He's looking for love." Disneynature has unveiled the first fun trailer for their next feature documentary, titled Penguins, arriving in theaters on Earth Day 2019. It's Disneynature's tradition to always preview their next film a year ahead of release on the Earth Day before, and they're doing that again with this one. Penguins is actually focused on mainly one little penguin, who stands out - an adorable little guy named Steve who joins millions of fellow males in the icy Antarctic spring on a quest to build a suitable nest, find a life partner and start a family. This looks remarkably adorable and so much fun, but that's of course because these filmmakers are experts, by now, at crafting very clever narrative stories around cute animals from this beautiful Earth we live on. So much amazing footage! I just hope it makes us all care more about our planet.

Monkey Kingdom

With the release of the documentary Bears just under a couple weeks away, Disneynature is already beginning to show off their Earth Day documentary release coming in 2015. This time the niche release arm of the House of Mouse is focusing on a group of monkeys in the jungles of South Asia in Monkey Kingdom. The film spotlights the competitive social hierarchy of the Temple Troop, a dynamic group of monkeys who live in ancient ruins found deep in the storied jungles of South Asia, alongside a rich cast of forest characters. More specifically, we follow a mother and her newborn as they struggle to survive. Watch!

Bears

Though the films might not get as much attention as Brave or Wreck-It Ralph, Disney has been dedicated to nature documentaries through their Disneynature banner since 2008. Last year, Chimpanzee took the spotlight, and in just over a year, audiences will head to the forest and mountains with Bears. The first trailer for the new documentary has surfaced and it mostly has Disney recapping their previous ventures into nature and explaining how part of their early ticket sales go to various organizations protecting the environment and its inhabitants. But there's also stunning footage of the majestic grizzly bears in Alaska.

Chimpanzee Trailer

Time to meet Oscar… Earth Day is tomorrow and every year Disneynature, the nature documentary arm of Disney, releases a new movie in theaters showing the beauty of our world and the animals in it. This year it's African Cats, which opens everywhere on Friday, the year before that it was Oceans and Earth before as well. Next year, in 2012, they'll be showing Chimpanzee, a documentary about an adorable three-year-old chimp nicknamed Oscar who is raised as an orphan (and caught on camera). The official trailer was released by Yahoo this week to go along with African Cats and man, this will get you right in the heart. Watch below!

Disneynature's Oceans Trailer

In honor of today being Earth Day, Disney has launched the trailer for their newest nature movie Oceans, due out in theaters exactly one year from today, on Earth Day 2010. While I'm at it, I should mention that I saw Disneynature's Earth last week, and it's actually pretty amazing. I would highly suggest seeing it, especially since it just hit theaters today and Disney has a promotion running where your ticket money is used to help save the Earth. Anyway, half of this trailer features archival footage of Walt Disney talking about his original "True-Life Adventures" films, and it's fascinating to watch simply for that alone. Enjoy!

Gratitude Revealed Trailer

"The journey is into oneself, and into the meaning of being." Area 23a has revealed the official trailer for a documentary film titled Gratitude Revealed, the latest from doc filmmaker Louie Schwartzberg (also of Disneynature: Wings of Life and Fantastic Fungi). This wholesome and uplifting film is about the power of gratitude. Following the incredible success of his viral sensation Fantastic Fungi, and a wildly popular TEDx talk (watch here) on gratitude that has reached tens of millions of viewers, Gratitude Revealed is an epic journey forty years in the making. Featuring intimate conversations with everyday people, thought leaders and personalities (including Norman Lear, author Luisah Teish, artist Alex Grey, author / minister Michael Beckwith), the film reveals that Gratitude is a proven pathway back from the disconnection we feel in our lives. I'm all for this, sounds good. Just feel like it's bad timing? Gratitude isn't going to slop climate change or fight fascism, as much as we may want it to, there's more to do. Save gratitude for after we save the world.

Fantastic Fungi Trailer

"Under every footstep you take… and that's all over the world." Moving Art has unveiled an official trailer for a documentary called Fantastic Fungi, which is indeed a movie about fungi - mushrooms and other fascinating underground networkers in the fungi kingdom. This doc film is described as "a consciousness-shifting film that takes us on an immersive journey through time and scale into the magical earth beneath our feet, an underground network that can heal and save our planet." Featuring scientists and mycologists like Paul Stamets, authors Michael Pollan, Eugenia Bone, Andrew Weil, and others, the film shows us "the beauty, intelligence and solutions the fungi kingdom" may provide humanity - the potential to save our planet. Which does indeed sound fascinating. It's "directed by the pioneer of time-lapse photography", Louie Schwartzberg, and it has plenty of stunning growth time-lapse shots. With narration by Brie Larson.

Pandas Trailer

"Prepare for cuteness overload!" 🐼 Oh boy. Warner Bros has debuted the first teaser trailer for a new nature documentary titled Pandas, that is simply about pandas in the wild. Filmed with IMAX cameras and being presented in IMAX and IMAX 3D, the film takes place mostly around Chengdu Panda Base in China. It follows a few researchers and documents the re-introduction of a panda into the wild. This is made by the filmmakers behind the other nature docs Born to be Wild and Island of Lemurs: Madagascar, and features a score composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (of Thor: Ragnarok). It looks like a harmless, fun, delightful animal documentary similar to the ones Disneynature has been putting out the past few years. I'm sure we'll see even more footage when the full trailer arrives, as this is just the teaser - but it's adorable anyway. Enjoy.

Bears

Disney has been dedicated to nature documentaries through their Disneynature banner since 2008. Last year, Chimpanzee took the spotlight, and in just over a year, audiences will head to the forest and mountains with Bears. The first trailer showed up this spring, but mostly highlighted Disney's previous ventures to support the environment and various nature conservations and more. But now a full trailer showing off their newest documentary and the adorable but fierce grizzly bears in Alaska's mountains and shores. The footage in these kind of docs is gorgeous and breathtaking, and this one is no different. Watch!
