The Old Way Trailer

"Tell me the names of the men who did this." Saban Films + Lionsgate have revealed the official trailer for The Old Way, a western action thriller from a filmmaker named Brett Donowho (that can't be his real last name?). The marketing describes this as Nicolas Cage's first ever Western, which might just be true? Why not. An old gunslinger and his daughter must face the consequences of his past, when the son of a man he murdered years ago arrives to take his revenge. Another typical Western story involving a man with a past who must fight off those who came after him when they find him. Sounds like so many other films. Starring Nicolas Cage and Ryan Kiera Armstrong, with Noah Le Gros, Clint Howard, Kerry Knuppe, plus Nick Searcy & Shiloh Fernandez. This doesn't look so bad, doesn't look so good either. At least Cage has a glorious mustache!! And it looks like he is going to get sweet, sweet Old West revenge on these schmucks.

Review: Edward Berger's Adaptation of 'All Quiet on the Western Front'
October 28, 2022

All Quiet on the Western Front Review

With the exponential growth of streaming, highly anticipated cinematographic works with high production value inevitably will end up being seen on one's tiny home screen (or mobile phone) rather than on the giant screen found in movie theaters. Despite constantly feeling sorry for not watching certain movies on the big screen, I believe a peaceful, satisfying future for all viewers involves offering both options for watching a film. Thus, everyone can choose the "format" they prefer for their experience, and no one is bothered. That said, Edward Berger's latest adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front deserves to be seen on the biggest screen and with the best possible sound conditions, as it's undoubtedly one of the best films of 2022.

Second Trailer for Germany's Riveting 'All Quiet on the Western Front'

All Quiet on the Western Front Trailer

"My mother didn't want me to go to war. I wanted to show them I could do it." Netflix has debuted another main official trailer for All Quiet on the Western Front, a brand new German adaptation of the classic book about the atrocities of World War I. The film already opened in theaters in Germany and in the US a few weeks ago - and will be streaming on Netflix soon. A young German soldier's terrifying experiences and distress on the western front during World War I. He heads off with excitement and enthusiasm, only to be sent straight into hell. Based on Erich Maria Remarque's novel published in 1928. The book was famously originally adapted for the big screen in 1930 by director Lewis Milestone, and again by the UK in 1979 with director Delbert Mann. This new film is also Germany’s official submission for the 2023 Academy Awards. This one stars Felix Kammerer, Albrecht Schuch, Aaron Hilmer, Moritz Klaus, Edin Hasanovic, Adrian Grünewald, Thibault De Montalembert, with Daniel Brühl, and Devid Striesow. The film is a haunting, and terrifying, look at just how awful war is and how it destroys many lives for no real reason.

Second Trailer for 'The English' Western Series Starring Emily Blunt
October 14, 2022

The English Series Trailer

"Someone killed my child… and now I'm gonna kill him." Prime Video has debuted the official trailer for The English, which is co-produced by both Amazon and BBC for distribution in both the US and the UK. It recently premiered at the 2022 London Film Festival. The series is about an Englishwoman who travels to the American west in the 1800s. The series follows a woman as she seeks revenge on the man she sees as responsible for the death of her son. There she connects with an ex-cavalry scout and member of the Pawnee Nation named Eli Whipp, played by Chaske Spencer. Who looks like a totally badass character?! The series stars Emily Blunt as the Englishwoman, with an ensemble cast featuring Rafe Spall, Toby Jones, Tom Hughes, Stephen Rea, Valerie Pachner, Ciarán Hinds, Malcolm Storry, and plenty others. This is a superb trailer, using some clever music choices to amp things up and play with the editing. Also - this just looks like a fantastic series!! Teaming up to take out the trash in America's wild wild west. Enjoy.

Jason Momoa is a Desert Runner in Western 'The Last Manhunt' Trailer
October 7, 2022

The Last Manhunt Trailer

"This is not the way… Peace doesn't follow death, does it?" Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie western thriller titled The Last Manhunt, directed by the actor Christian Camargo. This hasn't played at any fests and still doesn't have a release date, but it should be out pretty soon. Set in 1909, when a reputed murder sparks a Shakespearean tragedy, Willie Boy accidentally shoots his love interest's father after a confrontation gone wrong. With President Taft coming to town soon, a local sheriff decides to lead two Native American trackers seeking justice for their fallen tribal leader. Based on a true story told by the Chemehuevi tribe, the film features a primarily Native American ensemble cast. Lead by Jason Momoa as Willie, the film features Lily Gladstone, Martin Sensmeier, Mainei Kinimaka, Zahn McClarnon, Raoul Max Trujillo, Brandon Oakes, and Tantoo Cardinal. This looks like a bunch of friends went out and made a film in the desert, but it also seems like a worthy Native American story to tell. Have a look.

First Teaser Trailer for Germany's 'All Quiet on the Western Front' Film

All Quiet on the Western Front Trailer

"Death is not an adventure to those who stand face to face with it." Netflix has revealed the first official teaser trailer for All Quiet on the Western Front, a brand new German adaptation of the classic novel about the atrocities of World War I. This new take on this story is described as another "anti-war" movie, which is befitting with the current war going on in Europe. A young German soldier's terrifying experiences and distress on the western front during World War I. Based on Erich Maria Remarque's novel published in 1928. The book was famously originally adapted for the big screen in 1930 by director Lewis Milestone, and again by the UK in 1979 with director Delbert Mann. This new version is also Germany’s official submission for the 2023 Academy Awards for the Best International Film category. The film's cast: Felix Kammerer, Albrecht Schuch, Aaron Hilmer, Moritz Klaus, Edin Hasanovic, Adrian Grünewald, Thibault De Montalembert, with Daniel Brühl, and Devid Striesow. This looks brutal and horrifying, of course, the truth about war. Interesting to see the story told from the German perspective, though it's just as tragic.

Badass First Trailer for Walter Hill's New Western 'Dead For A Dollar'
September 1, 2022

Dead for A Dollar Trailer

"Maybe the easiest way out of this mess is to shoot you." Quiver has revealed an official trailer for a western action thriller titled Dead for A Dollar, which is premiering later this week at the 2022 Venice Film Festival playing Out of Competition. This is director Walter Hill's latest in years, he hasn't made many films in the past decade, but now he's back with a gritty western. Veteran bounty hunter Max Borlund is deep into Mexico where he encounters professional gambler and outlaw Joe Cribbens – a sworn enemy he sent to prison years before. Max is on a mission to find and return Rachel Kidd, the wife of a wealthy businessman, who as the story is told to Max, has been abducted by Buffalo Soldier Elijah Jones. Max is ultimately faced with a showdown to save honor. Dead for A Dollar's impressive ensemble cast includes Christoph Waltz, Willem Dafoe, Rachel Brosnahan, Brandon Scott, Warren Burke, Benjamin Bratt, Hamish Linklater, and Guy Burnet. This looks like it should be some rollickin', wild wild western fun! Lots of gun fights and distinct characters and much more. Give this one a look, even if you're not usually into westerns.

New UK Trailer for 'The Last Victim' Western Starring Ron Perlman
August 31, 2022

The Last Victim UK Trailer

"Someone else was here?" "Did she see anything…?" "Yep." Signature Ent. has released their own UK trailer for The Last Victim, described as a "neo-Western thriller" about a small town sheriff chasing outlaws. It already opened in the US a few months ago, but why not another trailer since it looks like a solid film. The Last Victim is a small town crime thriller set in the American southwest, following Sheriff Hickey who is trying to solve the worst case he has seen in his jurisdiction, likely caused by a violent local gang led by a fearsome criminal. When a young professor and her husband cross paths with the gang, they are drawn into a chain of vengeance where morality is ambiguous and survival is the only priority. The thriller stars Ali Larter, Ron Perlman, Ralph Ineson, Kyle Schmid, Tahmoh Penikett, and Tom Stevens. This film doesn't seem too bad and might end up being an engaging watch, especially with Ron Perlman in the lead.

Must Watch Trailer for 'Saloum' Awesome African Neo-Western Horror
August 10, 2022

Saloum Trailer

"He's preparing for something. Something… he isn't telling us." Shudder has unveiled an official trailer for a film from Africa titled Saloum, a break-out feature from Congolese director Jean Luc Herbulot. This first premiered in Midnight Madness at TIFF 2021 last year and rocked numerous other genre festivals including Fantastic Fest and Beyond Fest. I flipped for this, one of the most creative and badass African films paving the way for a New Wave of African cinema. The film takes place in the West African nation of Senegal, on the delta known as Saloum. The film follows a trio of mercenaries escorting a foreigner drug dealer through dangerous lands. Not only is the film packed with vibrant, often neon, style expressed through colors and light and distinct costumes, but it switches up genres part of the way in and dips a bit into action horror. Starring Yann Gael, Evelyne Ily Juhen, Roger Sallah, Mentor Ba, and Bruno Henry. Yeah this film is awesome and you need to take some time to watch because it will rock your TV as soon as you press play.

Thandiwe Newton in Trailer for Neo-Western Thriller 'God's Country'
July 28, 2022

God's Country Trailer

"Out here things are a little different… Most folks handle this sort of thing amongst themselves." IFC Films has unveiled the first official trailer for God's Country, an indie Neo-Western thriller from filmmaker Julian Higgins. This first premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and it earned some rave reviews, despite mostly flying under the radar during the festival. The title is a reference to the land which it takes place on - Thandiwe Newton plays Sandra Guidry, a Black professor living and working in a rural town in the snowy lands of the American West. When this grieving college professor confronts two hunters that she catches trespassing on her property, she's drawn into an escalating battle of wills with catastrophic consequences for all. It's a remarkably tense thriller with some exceptional cinematography, but most of all a towering, magnificent performance from Newton. The indie cast features Jeremy Bobb, Joris Jarsky, Jefferson White, Kai Lennox, & Tanaya Beatty. This is one great indie film this is worth seeking out.

Official Trailer for Western 'The Lonesome Trail' Starring Peter Wray
July 4, 2022

The Lonesome Trail Trailer

"We are not leaving, this is our land and we mean to stay!" A trailer has arrived for an indie western film titled The Lonesome Trail, marking the feature debut of filmmaker Arlette Thomas-Fletcher. This is a religious propaganda film in which they even admit that the whole point is "about Preacher Brent Carson's commitment to God to spread the gospel and help all people migrating to the town of Red Springs Montana to find a home." A preacher comes to a small western town in the 1890s, settles in the outer lands near one of the biggest landowners in town and changes the whole landscape of the town. The tagline is: "Sometimes Forgiveness Comes With A Price." The film stars Peter Wray as the Preacher, Lamont Easter, Donald Imm, Kelly Schwartz, Kendra North, Colin McHugh, & Johnny Alonso. This just seems like some B-movie that you'd find stashed in your church near the TV, but there's not much else worth sharing today.

Leah Purcell's Outback Western 'The Legend of Molly Johnson' Trailer
June 30, 2022

The Legend of Molly Johnson Trailer

"Fight for my children, fight for my life, I will." Samuel Goldwyn Films has revealed official US trailer for The Legend of Molly Johnson, also known as The Drover's Wife: The Legend of Molly Johnson, which first opened in Australia a few months ago after premiering at the 2021 SXSW Film Festival last year. The story of a lonely bushwoman who struggles to raise her children and run the family farm while her husband is away. In the Snowy Mountains, heavily pregnant Molly Johnson is pushed to her limits. With the burden of a dark secret and intruders to her property, Molly does whatever it takes to protect her children. Starring actress Leah Purcell as Molly Johnson, who also wrote and directed the film, along with Rob Collins, Sam Reid, Jessica De Gouw, Benedict Hardie, Harry Greenwood, Tony Cogin, Nicholas Hope, Maggie Dence, and Bruce Spence. This is a fantastic new trailer, better than I was expecting, with an evocative score to build up the tension as it plays out. You'll definitely want to watch this film the end of it.
