Nicolas Cage Wants to Do a Sequel to 'The Wicker Man' Set in Japan
With the pseudo sequel to 1973's The Wicker Man the aptly titled The Wicker Tree, now in theaters, Nicolas Cage (who will be seen next month in the absolutely over-the-top comic book sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance from Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine) dropped a gem of an idea he's got. Cage was recently asked about revisiting characters and surprisingly answered that he would like to make a sequel to the 2006 remake. Cage starred alongside Ellen Burstyn, Leelee Sobieski, a bear suit, and James Franco for three minutes, but for the sequel he wants Hideo Nakata (Ringu) to direct. Oh and Cage would be a ghost.

Darren Aronofsky's 'Noah' Epic May End Up Shooting This Summer?
Darren Aronofsky has never been one to get films easily afloat, per se, and may have just as many sinking or dead in the water projects as he does completed ones (granted his completed films are brilliant masterpieces including The Fountain). But his latest planned project, the biblical epic Noah, could be setting sail as soon as this summer. According to a little bit of the telephone game with cinematographer and frequent collaborator Matthew Libatique (who worked with Aronofsky on Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, Black Swan and nearly The Wolverine) it sounds like the film could be shooting this summer.

Billy Bob Thornton, Thomas Jane & James Marsden Join 'Red Machine'
James Marsden, Thomas Jane and Billy Bob Thornton have all been cast in Red Machine, a new wilderness thriller from director David Hackl (Saw V) and first time screenwriter J.R. Reher. According to Variety, the film centers around two at-odds brothers (Jane and Marsden) who attempt to mend fences over a camping trip. Yet, instead of putting things back together, they're literally torn apart by a relentless grizzly bear nicknamed "Red Machine." I'm assuming he got the nickname from his reddish brown fur and knack for killing as opposed to just destroying Mountain Dew Code Red vending machines. More below!

Colin Firth Offered the Villain Role in Spike Lee's 'Oldboy' Remake?
If he wasn't already a hot commodity, snagging last year's Oscar for Best Actor in The King's Speech made Colin Firth an even bigger deal on the big screen, and now Twitch has word the British actor has been offered the villainous role of Adrian in Spike Lee's remake of Park Chan-wook's Oldboy. Firth would be the nemesis to Josh Brolin's character, a man that finds himself kidnapped and mysteriously imprisoned in a hotel room for more than a decade and, upon his release, seeks out the person responsible and reasoning for holding him captive. From there, well, things gets weird. Remember, Firth has only been offered the role.

Stephen King Novel 'Rose Madder' Being Adapted for the Big Screen
There are numerous big screen Stephen King adaptations, from the really good (The Shining) to the really bad (unfortunately there are too many of these to list but here's one for you…Dreamcatcher) and the "Oh yea, he did write those didn't he?!" (The Shawshank Redemption , The Green Mile) in between. But somehow, King's Rose Madder has evaded the feature film treatment until now. Variety is reporting that Palomar Pictures and Grosvenor Park are working on an adaptation of the 1995 novel with screenwriter Naomi Sheridan, writer of In America and daughter of My Left Foot director Jim) scripting the project.

Keira Knightley Set to Star in a Different Effie Gray Biopic 'Untouched'
Surprise! Serial period piece actress Keira Knightley is in talks to star in Untouched, a biopic on the life of artist muse Effie Gray. Gray was married to the famous 19th century art critic John Ruskin but later annulled the unconsummated marriage (because Ruskin apparently though Gray's body to be undesirable) to be with his protege, painter John Everett Millais. Brazilian filmmaker Andrucha Waddington (House of Sand) will direct the period romance, with a script from newcomer Aleksandra Crapanzano. Coincidentally, this isn't the only film in production centering around Gray's complicated and tumultuous romance life.

Official Plot Synopsis for 'The Evil Dead' Remake Not Too Surprising
We've been hearing about this project for a little while, and now Bloody Disgusting has the scoop on the official plot synopsis for Uruguayan short-turned-feature director Fede Alvarez's remake of Sam Raimi's 1981 cult classic The Evil Dead, produced by Raimi himself under his Ghost House Pictures banner. The script for the film comes from Alvarez and frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues with rewrites by Diablo Cody (of Jennifer's Body, Juno). Karl Urban & Ben Barnes Join the Cast of Antonio Negret's 'Overdrive'
It's THR with the casting scoop on Karl Urban (Star Trek) and Ben Barnes (Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian) joining the cast of Overdrive, from director Antonio Negret (the upcoming Transit starring Jim Caviezel) and writers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt (2 Fast 2 Furious, Wanted). With those writers and the same director uniting, a testosterone-filled torque-fueled film about two high profile car thieves who run into trouble with a crime boss in France seems all too appropriate. Urban and Barnes will play the siblings, and apparently beat out Alex Pettyfer, Matthew Goode and Garrett Hedlund for the roles.

Family of River Phoenix Denies Involvement with 'Dark Blood' Release
Just a few days ago, we brought you news of director George Sluizer's plans to finally share with the world Dark Blood, his unreleased 1993 film that features the last remaining performance of the late River Phoenix (the young actor tragically died of a drug overdose with only 11 days left on the production of the film). Sluizer said that he planned to enlist the help of brother Joaquin Phoenix to provide ADR to substitue for River's voice and had remained in close contact with the Pheonix family, leading us to believe the release had their full support and cooperation. According to them, that doesn't seem to be the case at all.

Last Unseen Film Starring River Phoenix Might Finally Get Released
Director George Sluizer (the man behind both the original and American remake of The Vanishing starring Jeff Bridges and Kiefer Sutherland) has kept the final performance of the late River Phoenix under lock and key for quite awhile. That is until now. The Dutch director of Dark Blood, who hid the footage of the film after Phoenix tragically died of a drug overdose at the age of 23 with only 11 days left in production, has stated that he has since re-edited the film with plans on releasing it next year. However, Phoenix's performance will need some ADR, a task that will use the voice of Joaquin Phoenix to help.
