Inside Look Featurette for 'Extrapolations' Sci-Fi Series on Apple TV+
"It's an enormous theme played on an enormous stage, with very personal, small stories…" Apple TV has revealed a new behind-the-scenes featurette for their upcoming series titled Extrapolations, from writer Scott Z. Burns. We posted the intriguing main trailer for this a few weeks ago. "'We must save ourselves.' Take a closer look at how Extrapolations turned science into storytelling though small personal moments on a global scale." The series features "unanticipated stories of how the upcoming changes to our planet will affect love, faith, work and family on a personal and human scale." The series features a massive ensemble cast lead by: Meryl Streep, Sienna Miller, Kit Harington, Daveed Diggs, Edward Norton, Diane Lane, Tahar Rahim, Yara Shahidi, Matthew Rhys, Gemma Chan, Tobey Maguire, and tons of others. This promo video focuses more on the cast and the humanistic stories being told, rather than on the sci-fi or climate change disasters that will be disrupting the world in the future. I'm still excited to watch this series, I just want it to be harsh and honest about humanity's failure to address climate change, in addition to the hopeful aspects.

First Look Featurette for 'The Pope's Exorcist' Starring Russell Crowe
"If evil does not exist, what then is the role of the church?" Sony Pictures has unveiled a first look featurette for a new horror thriller film titled The Pope's Exorcist, the latest from Australian action director Julius Avery. In this exorcism movie - Russell Crowe is The Chief Exorcist of The Vatican. It's an examination of the real-life figure Father Gabriele Amorth, a priest who worked for the Vatican and performed more than 100,000 exorcisms in his lifetime. (He passed away in 2016 at the age of 91.) Amorth wrote two memoirs – An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories – and detailed his experiences battling Satan and demons that had clutched people in their evil. The impressive cast also includes Franco Nero as The Pope (awesome!!), Laurel Marsden, River Hawkins, Pablo Raybould, Daniel Zovatto, Alex Essoe, and Ralph Ineson as the voice of the "Demon". They're trying to build up the buzz for this, so it turns into a big horror hit this spring. This intro is offered as a direct way of telling us – it's actually based on a real person.

Watch: 'Titanic' 25 Years Later - Featurette with Cameron & Winslet
"I believe in the theatrical experience." Paramount Pictures has debuted a new featurette for the 2023 re-release of Titanic, James Cameron's epic romantic tale of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. "Celebrate the 25th anniversary of the timeless love story this Valentine's Day Weekend." This is opening on the big screen again in 4K 3D (along with HFR screenings) and will play throughout February. This video focuses on the cast and filmmakers reflecting on making Titanic now 25 years later, to compliment the re-release trailer. With a cast headed by Oscar winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, the film is an epic, action-packed romance set against the ill-fated maiden voyage of the "unsinkable" Titanic, at the time, the largest moving object ever built. Also starring Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, Bill Paxton, and Gloria Stuart. This featurette is way too short, more of a slapdash promo plus a reminder this is (re-)opening soon. They didn't even get DiCaprio to talk about it! Though it's nice to hear Cameron still raving about it all these years later.

Enjoy This 27 Mins Behind-the-Scenes of Refn's 'Copenhagen Cowboy'
"This is not a making of… But more of insight on how the cowboy fell asleep and woke up in Copenhagen." Netlfix has revealed an extensive behind-the-scenes featurette for their new series Copenhagen Cowboy, the latest creation from the mind of Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn. We already posted the official trailer last year, and it has been streaming since early January on Netflix. The series introduces a brand new young heroine, Miu, who travels through Copenhagen's criminal netherworld. He adds in this video that the original pitch was to extended his Pusher series, but it's actually about a woman becoming a "superhero." The series stars Angela Bundalovic as Miu, who's joined by Lola Corfixen and Zlatko Buric, plus a big supporting cast featuring Andreas Lykke Jørgensen, Jason Hendil-Forssell, Li Ii Zhang, Dragana Milutinovic, Mikael Bertelsen, Mads Brügger, and more. We don't usually get to see lengthy, full-on videos like this when it comes to behind-the-scenes glimpses. I really enjoy seeing Refn work on his neon-drenched sets. He says some strange things in here (extraterrestrials?? okay Refn) but that's the magic of it.

Enjoy This 'Look Inside' Featurette for Shyamalan's 'Knock at the Cabin'
"I'm very drawn to stories of confinement…" Universal has revealed a behind-the-scenes featurette for M. Night Shyamalan's next new thriller Knock at the Cabin, opening in theaters in just a few more weeks. It's based on a book by Paul Tremblay, about a family who is told the apocalypse is coming and they must "make an unthinkable choice" but they have no connection to the outside world and can't tell if it's all real or not. This video gives us a look at Shyamalan's process and filming on the set. Knock at the Cabin stars Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Nikki Amuka-Bird, newcomer Kristen Cui, Abby Quinn, and Rupert Grint. It's always nice to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse, especially with Shyamalan. I wish there was more footage of the actual sets, but perhaps they're afraid of spoilers. I am so into this concept, I can't wait to find out what's going on and what choice(s) they make in the end. We'll know the answers soon.

Fan-Made 'Real Nuke' Making Of Featurette for Nolan's 'Oppenheimer'
"We all know that Chris is very big in getting everything on camera and doing things as real as possible." One of our most anticipated 2023 movies is Christopher Nolan's latest titled Oppenheimer, telling the story of the creation of the atomic bomb at Los Alamos in the 1940s. By now, most movie fans have heard the real news that Nolan created shots showing the nuclear explosion without using any CGI. Which is just a bit crazy? But also awesome. Nolan is famous for doing everything for real on set, with practical FX and set pieces and stunts. Last year someone made a joke about how he probably thought about detonating a real nuke just to get the perfect shot. Taking that joke even further: "I can't believe they released the footage of Christopher Nolan dropping a real nuke!" Filmmaker Stephen Ford created this entirely fake, entirely fan-made featurette to riff on that "rumor" and it's a must watch. It's so perfectly edited, I'm in awe! I cackled when Hoyte Van Hoytema mutters "shit, how are we gonna do this?" I have to post it for everyone to enjoy.

Behind-the-Scenes Videos for Cameron's 'Avatar: The Way of Water'
"The technology gives me that portal to bring my 14-year-old self to play this girl." –Sigourney Weaver. Get a glimpse at how they made this epic sci-fi spectacle! A few new behind-the-scenes videos with fresh footage from the making of Avatar: The Way of Water have finally appeared online. I've been waiting to see this footage, as I really enjoy watching the performance capture studio work. Director James Cameron started filming Avatar 2 back in 2017 (!!) and finished in 2018, moving right into filming Avatar 3 which shot from 2019 to 2020 (and is currently set for release in 2024). The production on these Avatar sequels involved both performance capture studios and live-action sets, utilizing water tanks and pools for many of the underwater scenes. As we already know, Cameron has extensive experience using water tanks in his big movies previously (mainly for The Abyss and Titanic). I wish there was more footage, they seem to be hiding most of the behind-the-scenes for now. I just think all of this is so cool, I even enjoy watching them in the grey suits with dots on their faces. I'm glad a few featurettes have been released so far - check ’em out below.

New Behind-the-Scenes Video for 'Emancipation' on Building the World
"I am completely motivated by the way that the story is going to be received by the world. But I measure my own success on whether it shoots well." Apple has revealed yet another new behind-the-scenes look at Emancipation, which is now available to watch streaming on Apple TV+ after playing in limited theaters. The survival film stars Will Smith as Peter, a runaway slave who forges through the swamps of Louisiana on a tortuous journey to escape plantation owners that nearly killed him. Based on a true story - it's inspired by the 1863 photos of "Whipped Peter," taken during a Union Army medical examination. This video focuses on the production – spending time with director Antoine Fuqua, cinematographer Robert Richardson (who also shot Tarantino's Django Unchained & Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), and production designer Naomi Shohan who built some incredible sets for this movie. It seems they're hoping all this attention will bring them awards nominations and extra views on Apple TV+, but I just don't know if anyone wants to watch this movie anymore. That said, I love visiting sets and listening to these artists talk about their work.

A Lovely Steven Spielberg + John Williams 'The Fabelmans' Featurette
"I think that the contribution John has made to all of my films is absolutely immeasurable." Oh these two are so adorable together. Universal has revealed an official featurette for The Fabelmans, which has been playing in theaters for a month already playing on VOD soon. The featurette focuses on legendary composer John Williams and his connection with filmmaker Steven Spielberg. It is a promo for The Fabelmans, but it also goes back through some of their most iconic scores - for Jaws, Jurassic Park, Close Encounters, and Schindler's List. It's a full five minute video, not some skimpy promo with barely any dialogue. The two spend their time talking about their collaborations. Spielberg's The Fabelmans is the most personal movie that Spielberg has ever made, reflecting on the experiences that made him the filmmaker we know and love, in a story based on his childhood. Growing up in post-WWII era Arizona, a boy named Sammy discovers a shattering family secret and explores the power of films. This is such a lovely video about these two. I could watch a whole feature-length doc film about Williams & Spielberg. I'm sure they have so many stories to tell.

Full IMAX Behind-the-Scenes Look at Michael B. Jordan's 'Creed III'
"As a storyteller, you really put a piece of yourself into your films." MGM + UA have debuted the full IMAX behind-the-scenes featurette for Creed III online after initially playing in theaters with Avatar: The Way of Water this past weekend. This was unveiled an exclusive IMAX preview, but now it's online for everyone to enjoy – regardless of the IMAX cinema. "Michael B. Jordan invites you to an exclusive look at the making of Creed III - the first sports movie to be filmed on IMAX cameras. Learn more about bringing the next chapter of Adonis’ story to the big screen and experience the film in theaters." Michael B. Jordan is also making his directorial debut and returning as Adonis Creed in this third installment of the hit franchise. It also stars Tessa Thompson, with Jonathan Majors as his contender this time, Wood Harris, Florian Munteanu (back again as Drago), newcomer Mila Kent, & Phylicia Rashad. This new video focuses on Jordan's move into directing, and how this sequel means so much to him - as a filmmaker and a storyteller.

Full Behind-the-Scenes Preview for 'M:I - Dead Reckoning Part One'
"How do we involve the audience? I just want to give them that thrill." Paramount has debuted the full 10 minute behind-the-scenes preview for Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One online after first showing in theaters with Avatar: The Way of Water. As everyone knows, they shot both of the next movies back-to-back - Dead Reckoning: Part One and Part Two, opening in the summers of 2023 and 2024. Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt formerly of the IMF, off on more covert missions to save the world. The cast in Part One includes Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Henry Czerny, and Cary Elwes. This featurette focuses on a few of the big stunts, mainly the motorbike parachute jump off of the famous cliff in Norway. I'm amazed to see how many times they did prep jumps just to find the perfect place to setup the camera, and make sure everything works well for the shot in addition to Cruise's safety. That's some serious commitment. This is behind-the-scenes marketing I dig, especially since it doesn't open for 7 more months.

Handcrafting a Stop-Motion 'Pinocchio' Behind The Scenes Featurette
"Everything has to be built, you fully create a world." One of the most stunning animated films of the year is now available to watch on Netflix! To celebrate the release, Netflix has unveiled another behind-the-scenes featurette for Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, his stop-motion animated musical version of this classic Italian fable. All the reviews so far are glowing, praising so much of the film and its unique magic found in the story and all the characters. GdT reinvents Carlo Collodi's classic tale of the wooden marionette who is magically brought to life in order to mend the heart of a grieving woodcarver named Geppetto. This stop-motion musical follows the mischievous & disobedient adventures of Pinocchio in his pursuit of a place in the world. Directed by del Toro & Mark Gustafson, the voice cast features Ewan McGregor as Cricket, David Bradley as Geppetto, Gregory Mann as Pinocchio, plus Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, Tim Blake Nelson, Ron Perlman, Burn Gorman, Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz. I always enjoy watching behind-the-scenes of stop motion to view all the craftsmanship & hard work that goes into it looking perfect in camera.
