ENJOY THE SHOW

Netflix Instant This Week: Zombieland, Aliens, Black Dynamite

Netflix Instant

We're back again with a great selection of new titles for Netflix Instant. In addition to the list of titles you'll find below, be sure to check out some cinematically relevant television shows being added into the mix too. Available for streaming on July 1st (which means now) are shows like "The Sarah Conner Chronicles," the cheesy, but enjoyable "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," Aaron Sorkin's wrongly canceled "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" and just for fun, all four seasons of "Futurama" which just premiered new episodes on Comedy Central. But there's plenty of great movies to enjoy. So what's in our queue this week?

This Week on Netflix Instant: This Is It, Jaws and The Sandlot

Netflix Instant

It's been more than a little while since our last Netflix Instant post, but we're back with a vengeance this week catching up on some titles already available and adding some new titles which will be available later this week. Between our last update and this one, we got word that a Netflix app will hit the iPhone later this summer allowing you to stream your favorite instant titles right into the palm of your hand. With or without Roger Ebert's blessing, new film titles that you'll soon be able to view include a must-see documentary for aspiring screenwriters, an absolute childhood classic, and lots of sharks. So what's in our queue this week?

Netflix Instant Hitting iPhone in Summer, Ebert Disapproves

Netflix on iPhone

With the Netflix Instant streaming feature, viewers have been able to enjoy their favorite movies nearly anywhere there's a wifi internet connection floating around. However, only recently has Netflix Instant left desktop/laptop computers and televisions behind with the recent introduction of a Netflix app for Apple's slick iPad. After the Netflix app hit the iPad, we all assumed it was only a matter of time before it would hit the iPhone or iPod touch as well. Now it's official as Steve Jobs and Apple announced today (alongside their fourth gen. iPhone) that a Netflix app for both the iPhone and the iPod touch will be available this summer.

This Week on Netflix Instant: The Pianist, The Messenger & Up

Netflix Instant

Last week our batch of Netflix Instant updates was absent simply because the selection was outrageously terrible (though there were some excellent additions in TV - like Nicktoons such as "Rocko's Modern Life," "Rugrats," "Aaahh! Real Monsters" and "Ren & Stimpy"). So right now, we're just playing each week by ear and seeing if there's a good enough selection up for grabs. Luckily we've got a pretty decent batch this week: plenty of award nominated films, including Pixar's first Best Picture nominated effort, a classic western and a fantastic indie horror flick from last year that you don't want to miss. So what's in our queue this week?

This Week on Netflix Instant: District 9, Amelie, The Jerk, More

Netflix Instant

So last week with the Cannes Film Festival shifting into full gear and the time zone difference with our own Alex Billington bringing us the latest from the fest, we didn't have time to publish the newest weekly Netflix Instant update. But now we're back with a vengeance (and last week's list sucked anyway). This week we've got a solid collection of flicks including a film from my Top 10 of 2009, an animated flick that was snubbed for an Oscar nomination, one of my favorite comedies of all-time, an 80's horror favorite that has a remake lined up and a throwback to when Tom Hanks used to actually be funny. So what's in our queue this week?

This Week on Netflix Instant: Pandorum, St Elmo's Fire, Grace

Netflix Instant

It's not exactly the worst week in Netflix Instant, but there's nothing that's going to knock your socks off. This week's addition are an odd assortment of films ranging from twisted horror reminiscent of Rosemary's Baby to a sci-fi horror that inspires memories of Event Horizon. In addition, check out Edward Zwick's (The Last Samurai) feature film debut with one of a couple films in this week's choices that are essentially poor man's John Hughes movies. Finally, a comedy that will easily be wiped from my memory if Harrison Ford ends up kicking some extra terrestrial asses in Cowboys & Aliens. So what's in our queue this week?

This Week on Netflix Instant: Serpico, Machinist, Delgo & More

Netflix Instant

This week's Netflix Instant brings a combination of unique films, but this installment pales in comparison to the amount of programming from Viacom (including networks like MTV & Comedy Central). Though we don't focus on TV, keep your eye out for major series additions like "The State," "Beavis & Butt-Head," and "Reno 911," not to mention stand-up from comedians like Demetri Martin, Patton Oswalt, John Oliver, and many more. On the film front, our picks include a dangerously skinny Christian Bale, a great coming-of-age flick from Barry Levinson, and a film with the very worst opening ever. So what's in our queue this week?

This Week on Netflix Instant: Fargo, It Might Get Loud & More

Netflix Instant

This week's new releases on Netflix Instant are so few and far between it's like looking in the DVD bargain bin at Wal-Mart. So once again we've included a few other old titles to give you some more options for your viewing this week (feel free to include more in the comments). Next week looks better, but in the meantime you can take a look at a wide variety of titles below as we've included a brand new indie release with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, a fantastic documentary featuring the majesty of the electric guitar, an Italian classic, and one film who's development and production was on display for all to see. So what's in our queue this week?

This Week on Netflix Instant: Moon, Clash of the Titans, More

Netflix Instant

Sadly, this week brings another barren installment of new releases on Netflix Instant (only 3 of the titles are new this week), and it looks like it's all because there's a ridiculously huge addition of various "Barney" and "Thomas the Train Engine" programming being added to the library, so if you have kids who like purple dinosaurs and blue trains, then this week is your week. But if you happen to like Sam Rockwell, younger Jeff Goldblum and Jim Carrey, the Coen Brothers and/or a small selection of films that are getting contemporary updates, then you might enjoy this week's other select titles just the same. So what's in our queue this week?

This Week on Netflix Instant: Harold & Maude, Gojira & More

Netflix Instant

Last week there was an impressive and hefty addition to the Netflix Instant library that not only included many great movies, but a monstrous update of television series as well. This week brings fewer new titles, mostly older selections, but still some good films as well, including Star Trek II (and details on the rest of the Star Trek sequels), the classic Japanese monster movie, one of Ridley Scott's mediocre films, the 1996 Beavis & Butt-Head movie, and the Hal Ashby directed 1971 romantic comedy Harold & Maude. Plus, new films on Hulu and The Auteurs since they've been off the list for a while. So what's in our queue this week?

This Week on Netflix Instant: Hook, Donnie Darko, & The Fly

Netflix Instant

After two weeks of lackluster installments, we're back with a diverse and sizable installment of new titles for Netflix Instant. A cult classic, an erotic indie, a Spielberg favorite, a foreign classic, a charming pseudo-documentary and Will Smith's breakthrough role are all featured in this week's new installment. However, a huge chunk of the new titles aren't seen here because many of them are TV shows, most adding their entire series run. Fortunately you can catch a run down of the television series updates at my other home online - DVDSnapshot.com - a great destination for home entertainment gurus. So what's in our queue this week?

This Week on Netflix Instant: Julie & Julia, Iron Giant & More

Netflix Instant

It looks like it will be two weeks in a row with a less than stellar line-up of new releases on Netflix Instant this week. Don't worry though because they're not slowing down adding titles, but it rather looks like they're gearing up for a huge influx of new titles being added the last week of March and first week of April. Still, there are a couple great new releases this week, and to round things out, I've went ahead and tossed in a few more choices from my own queue as well. A couple indies, a documentary, an Academy Award nominated performance from last year and more in this week's installment. So what should you be watching this week?
