Official HBO Trailer for 'Burden of Proof' Disappearance Docu-Drama
"I think my mother knows what happens… My father scared her to keep this secret." HBO has revealed an official trailer for a chilling docu-drama series titled Burden of Proof, from filmmaker Cynthia Hill. This is a documentary about a real cold case, but it's shot and presented as a docu-drama with recreations and slick cinematography that makes it all look like a fictional HBO series. Decades after his sister disappeared, a brother is determined to find the truth no matter the cost. Shot in cinema verité over seven years, the series unfolds in real time. It focuses on a man named Stephen who launches his own investigation into what he fears may have transpired in his parents' house back in 1987 the night his sister Jennifer vanished and a suspicious handwritten note left as the only clue. A rich, complicated narrative emerges while Stephen is left to wonder the price he has paid by pursuing this painful search for closure. Another of these true crime offerings for everyone addicted to horrible stories from America. This looks quite unsettling to watch.
Idris Elba Fights Back in Intense Airplane Thriller 'Hijack' Series Trailer
"We got one job to do right now - just get through it for them." Apple has unveiled a trailer for the thriller series Hijack. Much like the movie Plane from earlier this year, this remarkably simple title does indeed hint that the series is about a hijacking on a plane. Because, you know, what else could you call a hijacking thriller other than just Hijack? Told in real time, this tense thriller follows the journey of a hijacked plane as it makes its way to London over a seven-hour flight, and as authorities on the ground scramble for answers. Starring and executive produced by SAG Award winner and Emmy Award nominee Idris Elba, Hijack was created by George Kay ("Lupin") and Jim Field Smith ("Criminal," "Truth Seekers"). The series also stars Archie Panjabi, Christine Adams, Max Beesley, Eve Myles, Neil Maskell, Aimée Kelly, Jasper Britton, Harry Michell, Mohamed Elsandel, and Ben Miles. This looks legit. If you want to check out another hijacking thriller, you must find the Korean film Emergency Declaration. Buckle up for this trailer.
First Teaser Trailer for Animated 'Skull Island' Kong Series from Netflix
"Welcome back to his island." The next chapter of the Monsterverse begins. Netflix has revealed a teaser trailer for an anime series called Skull Island, set within the same Legendary Monsterverse as the Kong: Skull Island movie a few years ago. This looks rad! Skull Island is a thrilling adventure series that follows a group of good-hearted explorers who fish a drowning girl out of the ocean, having no idea that they’ve found themselves on a collision course with Skull Island — the most dangerous place on Earth — the mysterious home to strange beasts and terrifying monsters, including the greatest titan of them all: Kong. They end up shipwrecked on the island and will battle its many gnarly creatures. The voice cast includes Nicolas Cantu, Mae Whitman, Darren Barnet, Benjamin Bratt, and Betty Gilpin. It's set after the movie, and looks like a fun creation acting as a standalone survival story. We're still waiting for the epic Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire sequel to land in theaters next year. This will be streaming on Netflix this summer. Fire it up.
Kaley Cuoco & Chris Messina in 'Based on a True Story' Series Trailer
"Do we have to wake up to murders every morning?" Peacock has unveiled a full official trailer for a series called Based on a True Story, a true crime comedy riffing on the streaming obsession with true crime content these days. It's everywhere. So many shows and documentaries and endless stories being told about murders and disappearances and cults and mysteries. This is written by Craig Rosenberg, who also wrote for "Preacher" and "The Boys" before this, which means he's the perfect guy to riff on a modern obsession after riffing on superheroes. A realtor, a former tennis star and a plumber seize a unique opportunity to capitalize on America's obsession with true crime. Sounds dangerous, no? Emmy Award nominee Kaley Cuoco stars as Ava Bartlett, with Chris Messina as Nathan, and Tom Bateman as Matt. Liana Liberato, Priscilla Quintana, Natalia Dyer, Alex Alomar Akpobome, and Aisha Alfa also co-star. This looks like smart fun and I'm glad they're properly making fun of this true crime murder mania because, yeah, it's a bit nuts.

Trailer for Netflix Doc Series 'MerPeople' About Underwater Performers
"The weight of the world can be so intense… Mermaid sparkles is an escape from all of that." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a doc series called MerPeople, thankfully not a fantasy film about merpeople just a story about performers. This is obviously timed in sync with the upcoming debut of Disney's The Little Mermaid movie (opening May 26th) - trying to capitalize on the hype around mermaids / merpeople with the return of Ariel. "In recent years, there's been a growing mermaid subculture, with people donning tails, heading to mermaid conventions and competitions, and forming local groups, finding escape from the chaos of the real-world in underwater life." This doc series is about a group of people who perform as mermaids / mermen - on cruise ships and in other big water tanks. "You're seeing nonbinary merms, Black women; it makes no political statement but it's like, 'Let's celebrate everything,'" the producers say. This doesn't look as cheesy as it sounds, capturing the passion & the vibrancy of everyone involved in today's "mer" industry.
Abigail Lawrie & Rhianne Barreto in Yacht Thriller 'No Escape' Trailer
"It's not them I'm worried about." Paramount+ in the UK has unveiled an official trailer for a horror thriller film titled No Escape, from director Hans Herbots and writer Kris Mrksa. Reinventing themselves on the other side of the world, 19-year-old Brits Kitty and Lana find refuge on a yacht in the Philippines called "The Blue" - full of beautiful people, parties and endless beaches. But in joining her crew, they fall into far greater dangers than the ones they were trying to escape. Sounds like a modern version on The Beach, involving a yacht and pirates this time. Adapted from a book by Lucy Clarke. "It's been the most incredible experience to see my novel re-imagined for screen. I’ve loved every moment of the journey from reading early scripts to visiting the set in Thailand. The series is breathtaking: transportive, gripping, and thrilling from beginning to end. I can't wait for viewers to fall in love with it, too!" Starring Abigail Lawrie, Rhianne Barreto, Susie Porter, Jay Ryan, Sean Keenan, Colette Dalal Tchantcho, and others. Jump onboard below.
Full Trailer for Bull Riding Sports Doc Series 'The Ride' Streaming Soon
"Behind the world's toughest sport." Amazon's Prime Video has debuted their official trailer for a bullriding sports documentary series titled The Ride, about the new "team" bullriding competition and the evolution of the sport. This will be streaming on PV in May, telling the story of many riders and people involved in this intense and dangerous sport. The Ride follows an ensemble cast of bull riders and coaches throughout the PBR Team Series, as they navigate the league's inaugural 2022 season, budding rivalries, exhilarating highs, and the challenging lows of PBR’s newest team-based competition. The PBR (aka Professional Bull Riders) organization launched a brand new format last year, and this doc is made up of all the footage they shot on that first year. I'm sure many didn't even realize bull riding was still an ongoing professional sport, but it absolutely is. This is also covered in Chloe Zhao's excellent film called The Rider. This looks like another intimate and engaging sports series profiling a number of different professional athletes and their families.

Epic New Teaser for Sci-Fi Series 'Foundation' Season 2 - The Uprising
"It's time Empire had a reckoning." Apple has debuted an official teaser trailer for Season 2 of their epic sci-fi series Foundation - now set to launch in July this summer. I'll definitely be watching. Based on the novels by Isaac Asimov, Apple TV+'s Foundation series chronicles a band of exiles on their monumental journey to save humanity and rebuild civilization amid the fall of the "Galactic Empire". In Season 2, the Foundation will face the Crisis of Religion, as leaders start to use words of the divine to control the hopeless people who struggle after the fall of the Empire. Foundation stars Jared Harris as Dr. Hari Seldon; Lee Pace as Brother Day; Lou Llobell as Gaal Dornick; Leah Harvey as Salvor Hardin; Laura Birn as Demerzel; Terrence Mann; Cassian Bilton; & Alfred Enoch. Newcomers in this next season include Isabella Laughland as Brother Constant, a cleric whose job is evangelizing for the Church of the Galactic Spirit on Outer Reach; plus Kulvinder Ghir, Sandra Yi Sencindiver, Ella-Rae Smith, Dimitri Leonidas, Holt McCallany, Mikael Persbrandt, Rachel House, and Nimrat Kaur. I cannot wait for this! I'm a big fan of the first season, very excited to see how epic these next episodes get. All Empires fall…
Full Trailer for Fun Animated Series 'Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai'
"We are dealing with creatures who want chaos. I simply need to channel their destructive energy." HBO Max has launched the main official trailer for their animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, made at Warner Bros Animation. This is the highly anticipated return of the Gremlins creatures, bringing back the beloved little monsters (and the evil ones, too) for a new story set in the past. The animated series consists of 10 episodes to start and is intended to be a prequel to the 1984 film Gremlins and its 1990 sequel The New Batch. Set in 1920s Shanghai, East China, Secrets of the Mogwai tells the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing met Gizmo, a young Mogwai. Starring the voices of Izaac Wang as Sam Wing, Ming-Na Wen, B.D. Wong, James Hong, Matthew Rhys, A.J. Locascio, Gabrielle Green, and Zach Galligan; plus guest stars Sandra Oh, Randall Park, George Takei, Bowen Yang. This is a much better trailer than the first teaser, with some cool visuals and amusing moments. Yeah I will watch this when it debuts, to give it a look because I love the original Gremlins movies. Hoping this is good fun. Magic is all around us…
Tom Holland in 1970s NYC Crime Thriller 'The Crowded Room' Trailer
"This wasn't a random shooting. He's hiding something…" Apple has unveiled the first official trailer for The Crowded Room, an upcoming new crime mini-series from acclaimed / award-winning writer Akiva Goldsman. This will be premiering for streaming on Apple TV+ this June. The Crowded Room series follows Danny Sullivan (Tom Holland), a man who is arrested following his involvement in a shooting in New York City in 1979. A captivating crime thriller told through a series of interviews with curious interrogator Rya Goodwin, Danny’s life story unfolds. In these developments, f elements of the mysterious past that shaped him, and the twists and turns that will lead him to a life-altering revelation. Starring Tom Holland, with Amanda Seyfried, Emmy Rossum, Sasha Lane, Will Chase, Lior Raz, Jason Isaacs, Christopher Abbott, and Thomas Sadoski. This looks quite creepy. From what I can get from this trailer, it seems like he has multiple personality disorder and he's actually the killer but hiding everything under his "nice guy" personality. Hence the "crowded room" that all the characters are in. Looks good, especially performances.
First Look Teaser for Netflix's 'Bird Box Barcelona' Franchise Expansion
"Are you ready to see?" Netflix has revealed a first look teaser for their new spin-off series continuation of Bird Box, this one officially titled Bird Box Barcelona (also known as Blindly in Spanish). It's another Netflix Spain production, set in Barcelona, continuing the story where people start killing themselves - from the streaming movie Bird Box in 2018 with Sandra Bullock. After a mysterious force decimates the world's population by causing all who see it to take their lives, Sebastian and his daughter Anna must navigate their own journey of survival through the desolate streets of Barcelona. But as they form an uneasy alliance with other survivors and make their way toward a safe haven, a threat more sinister than unseen creatures grows. This stars Mario Casas, Georgina Campbell, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Diego Calva Hernández, Patrick Criado, Lola Dueñas, Gonzalo de Castro, Michelle Jenner, and Leonardo Sbaraglia. There's not much footage to view yet, but it does look like another intense apocalyptic thriller.
Full Trailer for 'Clone High' Revival - Animated Series Returns This May
"The clones – they're just horny science experiments!" Ohh they definitely are! HBO Max has unveiled the full official trailer for Clone High, the return of the cult classic animated series from Lord & Miller. Same style, same characters, even some of the same voice cast. Clone High was the very first creation of Phil Lord & Chris Miller, now known for Cloudy, The Lego Movie, Solo, 21 Jump Street. It was cancelled after one season in 2002 - but it's back 21 years later. After a high school that was secretly being run as an experiment to clone the greatest minds in history was put on ice, all of the young clones have been thawed out 20 years later to resume the experiment with new clone classmates—all while navigating a new set of cultural norms. With the voices of Will Forte as Abe Lincoln, Nicole Sullivan as Joan of Arc, Christa Miller as Candide Simpson, Donald Faison as George Washington Carver, Judah Miller as Scangrade, plus Ayo Edebiri, Mitra Jouhari, Vicci Martinez, Kelvin Yu, Neil Casey, Jana Schmieding, & many others. This looks like it's going to be a blast - recapturing the spirit of the original, updated for modern times with new jokes.
