Wonderful 'Last Days' Video Blog #8 for Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit'

Peter Jackson's The Hobbit

Hooray, the new video Hobbit blog is out! Peter Jackson has just posted video blog #8 for The Hobbit on his Facebook page, which not only covers the "Last Days" of production, but also his trip to Comic-Con just last week. This fantastic video runs nearly 15 minutes, giving us a wonderful look at how far they've come making these two (maybe three?) movies bringing us back to Middle Earth. This is the video I was talking about when I said it shows how much fun every last person had making this, such an amazing experience. "Here's a bit of what I saw in San Diego, and what those in Hall H got to see of The Hobbit!" Don't miss it!

Watch: Short New 'Skyfall' Video Blog on Bond's Aston Martin DB5

Aston Martin DB5

"It is about the old and the new." Doesn't everyone wish they owned an Aston Martin? Videos like this only make it worse, but they're still cool to see. The latest Bond 23 video blog from Sam Mendes' Skyfall is a featurette on the classic Aston Martin DB5 car, which first appeared in Goldfinger and is, for some odd reason, showing up in Skyfall, too. The video doesn't reveal exactly why, but does drop quite a few hints about it. "There's something about the last part of the movie which is deliberately, very consciously, could've taken place in 1962." Instead, it does have a lot of sexy car shots, if you're into that kind of stuff. Have fun!

Comic-Con 2012: 'Man of Steel' + 'Godzilla' + 'Pacific Rim' Video Blog

Superman: Man of Steel

One of the best Hall H panels I have ever attended in my 7 year history at Comic-Con happened yesterday in San Diego. Warner Bros, giving us a look at four or five of their biggest projects coming up, rocked the convention center and Hall H full of nearly 7000 fans with some of the most exciting footage we've seen and entertaining Q&As non-stop. The panel ran two and a half hours, covering Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, a reveal for Gareth Edwards' Godzilla, Zack Snyder's Superman reboot Man of Steel, and of course, Peter Jackson's The Hobbit. It was this event where many of us emerged very impressed by what we saw.

Comic-Con 2012: Marvel's 'Iron Man 3' + 'Ant-Man' Reveal Video Blog

Iron Man 3

Yesterday we attended Marvel Studio's presentation inside of the massive Hall H at Comic-Con 2012 to watch and learn about Marvel's upcoming slate. They not only announced titles for their upcoming sequels Thor: The Dark World (in 2013) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (in 2014), but also confirmed that a Guardians of the Galaxy movie is coming up in 2014. Finally, they showed Edgar Wright's unfinished Ant-Man test reel and a very fresh, very exciting sizzle reel from Iron Man 3 with Robert Downey Jr., which only just started shooting under the direction of Shane Black. It was an exhilarating panel overall.

Comic-Con 2012: Neill Blomkamp's 'Elysium' First Footage Video Blog

Three years ago, South Africans Neill Blomkamp and Sharlto Copley won over Comic-Con with District 9, which went on to become a huge theatrical hit and even earned a Best Picture nomination. Blomkamp and Copley are back again this year with their new movie Elysium, starring primarily Matt Damon along with Jodie Foster and Copley, and it looks awesome. As a huge sci-fi fanatic, I couldn't wait to see our very first glimpse at footage, and Blomkamp brought 7 minutes of raw, unfinished footage to show us. It has the same brilliant but gritty sensibilities as D9, but much bigger in scope and scale and with its own futuristic story.

Video Blog: 'Dredd 3D' with Karl Urban is Violent, Gritty & Awesome

Dredd 3D

Believe it! To kick off Comic-Con 2012 with some great buzz on preview night, Lionsgate held an early preview screening of Dredd 3D, the brand new remake/re-adaptation of the 2000 AD comic Judge Dredd. Director Pete Travis cast Kiwi actor Karl Urban as the new Dredd, who indeed never takes off his helmet, and Olivia Thirlby as a young, up-and-coming Judge under his assessment. It's awesome. It's badass. It's gritty. It's a bit like The Raid, but has its own story, courtesy of Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Sunshine), that never wastes a second of worthwhile time. Damn, I already want to see it again! Our video blog below.

Watch: Latest James Bond Costumes Video Blog from 007's 'Skyfall'

Skyfall Video Blog

"You have to respect a certain style - an English gentlemen perfectly dressed up." Another new production video blog has debuted for Sam Mendes' Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond film still finishing shooting. This blog, which comes in at less than two minutes, focuses on Bond's costumes, and costume designer Jany Temime (Children of Men, In Bruges, Wrath of the Titans, Harry Potter). It's a rather quick, but charming featurette, with some fantastic glimpses of the sets and locations in the movie. You even get a better glimpse at the shootout in Istanbul (grey jacket) than I did visiting the set! Another solid video blog on Bond. Enjoy!

Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit' Video Blog #7 - A Tour of Stone Street

The Hobbit Video Blog

"Shouldn't you be killing orcs or something?" Hooray, it's time for another fantastic production video blog from Peter Jackson for The Hobbit. This time, Jackson takes us on a tour of Stone Street studios, where they're shooting most of the on-set shots. If you've wanted to make movies, this is an extraordinary inside look at every last person and place and thing that goes into making a movie, such an amazing little video. There are surprise appearances by the dwarves, Luke Evans giving a "trailer park" tour and even Orlando Bloom, plus many others, so take a look and don't miss yet another awesome Hobbit video blog!

First Reaction: Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' is Breathtaking, Thrilling

"Big things have small beginnings." One of the many fantastic and extremely memorable lines in the movie. I am currently in London, England to attend the world premiere and conduct interviews this weekend for Ridley Scott's Prometheus, his epic return to sci-fi that arrives in theaters in the next week or two (Europe this weekend, US the next). Last night I got to see one of the very early screenings of the movie, in digital 3D at the 20th Century Fox offices, and was (as expected) amazed. It lived up to expectations, in every way. Prometheus is truly breathtaking, incredible, spectacular, thrilling sci-fi at its best. Initial reactions below!

Watch: Cannes 2012 Bloggers Favorite Films and Experiences Recap

Cannes 2012

Two questions: what was your favorite film and best experience? One last recap of the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, this time in video form, featuring a group of my blogger/critic friends. Throughout the last few days in Cannes, I met up with five of my colleagues in various places around the festival to ask them those two questions - their favorite film and favorite experiences. Everyone gave me a different answer for each question, and if you're tired of hearing my opinion, this features a range of opinions mentioning a variety of great films this year. I couldn't be happier with how this turned out and the responses I got. Watch below!

Hugh Jackman Posts a Mother's Day Video from 'Les Misérables' Set

Hugh Jackman Les Miserables

"By the way, my name is Hugh." This guy is simply one of the kindest, coolest, most appealing actors in Hollywood and it shows with these kinds of videos. One person delivering a special Mother's Day message today is Hugh Jackman - straight from the set of Tom Hooper's Les Misérables, which they are still currently shooting in England. The video was tweeted out by Jackman himself (found via Collider) yesterday on @RealHughJackman along with the message: "Happy mother's day from the set of #lesmis!" It gets a bit awkward with all the vacuuming, but it's good stuff. It's a bit short but sweet, as that's what counts the most.

Video Blog: Marvel's 'The Avengers' Initial Reactions with SlashFilm

The Avengers

After releasing in international theaters last weekend, Disney and Marvel Studios are finally opening Joss Whedon's The Avengers in theaters in the US this week. The movie actually screened about three weeks ago at its world premiere in Los Angeles, where a large number of movie bloggers/press first saw the movie inside the world famous Grauman's Chinese. Following the screening, immediately after, I met up with a few friends like Peter Sciretta and Germain Lussier, both of SlashFilm, to discuss our initial reactions and thoughts on the kick ass superhero movie we just saw. I'm prefacing this with the reminder that we recorded three weeks ago after our first screening of it, though I'm excited to see it a few more times as soon as I can.
