Friends (from left to right) del Toro, Cuaron, and Inarritu.
There are plenty of phenomenal filmmakers out there, including Martin Scorsese, but none of them are as visionary and as revolutionary as these three Mexico-born directors who've created some of the greatest masterpieces of 2006: Guillermo del Toro, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, and Alfonso Cuaron. Finally they're getting some recognition, with Babel, Innaritu's film, receiving the Golden Globe for Best Drama. I must take this moment to praise these powerhouse directors for their achievements and recognize them for their excellence.

Yes, it's yet another "top" list for 2006, but you know, I've got to publish it! Maybe I'll strike some controversy, or maybe I'll just show you a bit more about the films I enjoy and are undoubtedly fine creations. I'm an advocate for the fact that we at least need to distinguish and discuss top lists, because it enhances our knowledge and expertise and especially the experience of cinema all around. Anyway, enough rambling, on to my list!

We're at the time of year where just about everyone, from big names to bloggers alike, will be announcing and discussing their top 10 lists for 2006. However there is one prominent name I must mention - the one-and-only Stephen King. In his column in Entertainment Weekly he posted his top 10 list for 2006 with quite an interesting selection, and it's worth bringing up. He seems to provide an interesting spin on the typical "critics' choices" and for that, I must mention him.

So, in running events in theaters here, we've handed out some 4,897 posters (both full size and minis) to people at the movie theater. Yes, you heard that number correctly, we've given out a massive 4,897 posters, around 40% of which were full size ones, the same full size ones you buy at AllPosters.com for $24.99, but double-sided. And in handing that many out, what I've started to realize is that people really don't seem to care or want the posters. Now, when a certain one comes along that people are really excited for (Pirates 2 for example), then people feed on them like pigeons and bread. So what I've decided to do is host a weekly giveaway for a few posters from our collection (even for films not yet released).
